Ok so is it just me or did hardner wb just show up? Do you guys use it? Ups downs?im in the stl…..and the frist to use it in the area…reps didnt even know about it…..its just a hardner for autowave base…but when i started useing in 09….it wasnt there…
Thw WB hardener is new. The problem that has been happening is that sometimes when a rock chip occurs, water was able to reabsorb into the base and decrease the adhesion between the base and clear. The resulting problem was that some vehicles were having the clear peel back real nasty after stone chips occurred. And just like any solvent base, you get the same sort of advantages when hardener is added.
The under hood additive works similarly, but it is a different technology. The WB hardener mixes into the base better but allows for a longer pot life (pot life, for some reason, varies by colour, up to several days). I was told that the WB hardener is the hardener that is used in Europe with the waterbased clear.
November 12, 2011 at 3:32 am #34128Wb hardener has been out for about 6 months, the only place I would use it is on a front bumper cover where rock chips are inevitable. You add 5% to your base, mix it then add your WB activator. Can’t see how it will increase your potlife, every time I use it the base is jello the next day. They also say that sprayability doesn’t change but I think it does.Hard to say if this is the fix,I was told not to use it on everything, just areas prone to chipping. You can also use HS+LV hardener if you can’t get the wb hardener.

The hardener won’t increase pot life at all, but rather than having a short pot life of hardened base, the base is suppose to be sprayable for up to a couple of days. The last one I activated I kept an eye on and it looked like it may still be sprayable after 3 days. Apparently there was a shortage on the product, so it wasn’t really available until recently. As for sprayability, I have only used it a handful of times. Seems to me that the metallic control is affected slightly, have you noticed that at all?
They never told me not to use it, but they certainly want it used on anything susceptable to chipping. The national rep was at the shop recently and was talking to us about the product and their testing with it. He said that the biggest area they have had issues with the chips peeling, in North America, is here in Alberta.
November 12, 2011 at 5:58 am #34138Couple of questions:
1) why use HS+LV ? There are other choices. What part of the country are you in?
2) setting up Mixit Pro on your own can be a very big task especially since many of the buttons do not appear to be buttons. Do you have Internet access for that computer? What version of Pro is installed?
HS+LV can be a finicky bitch, it really depends upon material on the panel for flow and you need to be deliberate about how you do it. A controlled fan, air pressure, and proper routing will help. Adding EOA will help the flash off rate too. The solvents have not been changed in HSLV if you’re comparing it to HS+, it’s a completely different product.
You mentioned an LPH, not the best choice as it does not deliver all that much material to the surface further making the fast flashing clear flash even faster.
Even if you’re in a regulated market, there are several other choices.
As for Mixit Pro, there are some things missing that Mixit2 could do but they are minor and the benefits far outweigh those.
You can call 770-798-8619 and talk to Steve Pemberton at Akzo. He can help you with all things Mixit Pro
Comparing formulas side by side.
Mixing by the ounce.
Less locking/freezing up.
Faster info to the shop via Internet updates.
Making your own color library and telling it where and if you have a spray out.
Not having to return your waste to the scale to record VOCs.November 12, 2011 at 6:13 am #34140I use Mixit pro and it blows Mixit 2 away.
If your not in a low VOC controlled area I would stick with HS+ or even Lesonal Glamour if you weren’t using Superior
November 12, 2011 at 6:18 am #34141I said I was not a “tech rep”. 😉
They changed the names to be consistent with the rest of the line. No change on what is in the can.
Consider trying the 2pak version of the HSLV, much more user friendly and even cheaper to buy. Plus you don’t need reducers on hand. Does your booth bake?
