Change a front cover on a 2011 Camaro. Blended both fenders and hood. Customer brings car back with clear flaking on edge of hood in the blend area. Notice fender also lifting on edge. Began to sand and realized clear was not sticking. Started to peel clear up and it came off in sheets on the fender and hood. It seems there was something on the car ( like a protectant) that wouldn’t let clear adhere. Been doing this for 20 or so years and have never seen this before. Called customer and asked if any protectant was put on when he bought car new, he says no. Any thoughts on what might be the culprit?

Obviously there was no clear bra on the car I assume.

What did you sand it with and did the clear not stick to the base and to the existing clearcoat? What did you clean with?

    Welcome to the site.

A little more info may help. What was your process in prepping and painting? What products are you using? Did you use a water or solvent base coat? Where there any stone chips in the peeling area? How long was it out of your shop before it began peeling?
