So we got this Saturn Sky in the shop. Had two claims on it and we wound up doing a complete on this thing. The paint code is wa411P, a silvery grey color. Shot the base with my 1.4 Iwata LVB. Looked good in the booth, put four coats on then cleared. As I am clearing I can see some mottling and light streaking 👿 Cooked it off and drove it out of the booth and it looked worse :cens So I sanded the hood, deck, and driver door(had some funky dark spots) and went back in for round two using my Sata NR2000 this time. Used the exact same paint out of the exact same can. It went on a little bit lighter but I thought its just my eyes or it will dry darker, it has to, it the same paint. Well…. got it based and cleared, pulled it out and it was too light :cens :cens third times a charm, sprayed the rest of the pannels with the same paint and it went on lighter too. It finally matches but I still had some mottling. I hate this color and car so bad. I cant wait for this turd to leave the shop 😛
AnonymousFebruary 2, 2010 at 4:27 pm #19206That sucks, it happens to us all! Always that one car that doesn’t want to leave. I remember my first saturn I feathered out a scratch all the way down the side, put on a heavy coat of primer and watched the entire thing wrinkle on me…that was a bad day.
February 2, 2010 at 4:54 pm #19207Ya that definitely sucks. Its tough to get a panel match with those metallics using 2 diff guns. The Sata will atomize the paint differently than that Iwata causin the metallics to lay down different. As Bondo says its splendid when its Blended 😉
