Forgot to take pics of the fender after I had stripped it and repaired the lower portion but here it is in epoxy and 2k:

Evercoat Everglass on rear cab corner:

    2nd coat:

I put Rage Gold on top of that after I had it sanded out but didn’t get a pic. Here it is with a coat of metal glaze:

And all sanded out and straight:

Sanding on door jambs. This is where I cut corners the first time I painted it and I’m paying for it now. Those hinges take forever to get prepped.

I think I’ve finally made up my mind on the colors. House of Kolor Meteor Maroon II on top, white on the bottom with a grey stripe from front to back with 1/4″ silver stripes on top and bottom of that. In my cart right now I’ve got 3 gallons of reducer, 1 gallon of white, 1 gallon of red, 1 gallon kit of sealer, 1/4″ fineline tape, 1/8″ fineline tape, 50 sheets 500 grit wet paper, 2 gallons clear, 3 qts activator, 1 roll transparent masking paper, 1 qt Galaxy Grey II, 1 qt intercoat clear and 4 oz of a secret additive that I want to try out. Comes up to $1300 which I guess isn’t too bad I don’t suppose. The new Shimrin 2 line is supposed to meet and exceed all voc regulations and has a lower voc that waterborne. I suuuuure could use to motivation clicking that submit button…… :exci

Does hok base still reduce 2:1 ?

I think 12 quarts of sprayable color between white and red may be a little too much there.

    August 29, 2013 at 5:16 am #44307

Yeah but I’m doing some interior parts and I’m always using white and metallic red paint on small projects. This will save me a lot of money because the red is only $50 a qt compared to $100 a pint from dupont.

I wish I had ordered the paint last week so it would be in to go ahead and do the jambs and inner fenders. I had a few small areas with some surface rust where I stripped paint so tomorrow I’m going to go ahead and epoxy and 2k this side door jamb.

Just curios do you wet on wet your epoxy and urethane or when you say epoxy do you mean etch primer.usually epoxy needs to be sanded before urethane is aplied.

Shipments started rolling in today. A gallon of white base and a qt of metallic grey should be here tomorrow.

I will get a better pic of the red later with my camera. The phone doesn’t do the color justice. Looks really nice.

Ordered 4 ounces of this. Got something planned for it but I will have to do some experimenting before final decision.

Hi, I noticed your picture of products, and thought I might mention this from my experience with the USC01. I very well could be wrong, but it may be worth checking into some more before proceeding. I believe that the USC01 klear requires KU152 catalyst. I was told not to use the KU150 with that Klear. thanks

    September 9, 2013 at 5:01 am #44437

Yeah that was an error on my part. They didn’t list the KU152 on the website so I assumed it was the KU150. It’s been taken care of though. I appreciate you bringing it up though. By the way how did you like the clear? The tech guy I talked to said to let it flash for about 20-30 minutes before going into the next coat or it will run like crazy.

    September 9, 2013 at 6:49 am #44442

I have used the USC01 and UC35. They both turned out very nice for me. And who you talked to is right, the real difference between the two is the flash times. USC will flash hand slick before the next coat, where the UC35 will still be tacky. I just followed the tech sheets with both and had good results. good luck, and nice work on the truck, look forward to seeing it done.

I’m debating on which color to spray first when I get to the booth. Which would you guys do? I don’t want to get any red metallic flakes in my white. Either way I think I will end up using the shop vac to clean the floor again before I spray the clear.

    September 14, 2013 at 4:28 am #44484

Got the inner fenders sprayed finally. Late in the day so the pics aren’t the greatest.

Been dealing with these little guys for about a week. This what just from today. For some reason they love white so I put some dawn and water in a bucket. Needless to say they didn’t make it!

    Fenders:

Need opinions on 2 paint schemes. First or second? Not sure why the picture is rotated like that because it doesn’t show up in my photobucket wrong. I’ve turned and uploaded it again but it stays the same.

I used the House of Kolor KD3000 DTS primer surfacer as a sealer on the jambs. I must say that stuff is pretty amazing. I mixed it 4:1:2 and it sprayed extremely smooth. Nice thing about it is that there is no induction period, can be applied directly to metal and sands really easy. I let it flash for 30 minutes and then painted. Even mixed as a medium build surfacer it sprays really nice. When I got through I thought for sure my Devilbiss FLG3 turned into a Sagola 3300…
