hi I need some tips on how best to do a small spot repair on a classic car. the car was repainted in 94 and it has what looks an acrylic urethane single stage metallic factory color on it. still looks nice and shiny other than the scratch. the previous owner doesn’t remember but thinks it might have been deltron.
I know it would be best to do the whole quarter but i want to attempt to spot repair it because there is no line to break the quarter and it has expensive graphics on it.
that being said what is the best way to attempt it? how well do the blending agents work? what about using bc cc for the spot repair and then color sand and buff?April 3, 2013 at 3:22 pm #42566I think it´s best to go bc +cc because blending a single stage metalic with a blending agent will leave a nasty silver edge on the blending area ( i can´t remember the english name for it 🙁 ) .
Or , depending on the grafix you can use the grafix to tape up to , tho this needs the grafix to be continues over the whole panel.good luck,
Rob
I would sand a part of the car and see if it is clear coated. Deltron is base/clear, and as far as I know, the only Single stage it could have been was Delthane, Concept, or Delstar etc. even then, the single stage might have clear over it.
Ron made a good point, if you can paint up to the graphics with the same paint, you should match the finish well. If it is straight single stage (with no clear or intercostal clear) painting in base clear may look a little different. Solid colours in single stage blend easy, but as Rob mentioned, with the metallic, there is a big chance of getting a halo, and polishing the blend after may make it worse.

April 3, 2013 at 7:00 pm #42572I did the sand test. its single stage. cant tape to graphics because its not continuous to the end of panel.
I was thinking of going the bc cc over the single stage route and using a blending agent. not sure how it would work out.
deltron has a blending agent and they talk about a procedure for blending single stage. just not sure which method to try first.

That should take care of the halo effect.
If you can keep it small than you can always move on to bc+cc to save the day - AuthorPosts
