I’ve got a Buick Lucerne I’m painting the front end on. The colour is WA637R. In Sherwin Williams there are about 6 variants, none of which are blend able. I have sprayed this before on other models and have many tinted spray outs that I’ve matched to other cars. In typical GM fashion, no 2 models of the same paint code seem to be the same colour.

I’ve tinted this one and have it to a point where it is blend able. This colour has a crazy flop. A very green face with a bright violet flop. When I tinted I was able to match the value, bring out the green face and get some red into the flop. That violet flop is the killer. The face was easy enough to match, but there seemed to be no variants with that flop. The violet flop seems to be from a very fine pearl. I went through all our pearl toners and none have a violet flop…except the one with a red face that kills the green face if the colour.

As mentioned, I do have a reasonable blend able match now, but has anyone else had issues with this? The other 637r jobs I’ve done definitely didn’t have this green face/violet flop (the rest were more blue face/green flop IIRC). And when I worked at GM spraying Sikkens, I don’t recall this either. Maybe Sherwin Wiliams needs a special use pearl toner added to its system
