Not sure about the car rad or intercooler Paul, as neither are built to take that much pressure really.
Domestic rad might work well though. You’ll basically have a small reservoir/tank with a large surface area, so it might do the trick if it can hold the required pressure. Clearly the same volume of copper pipe would have a greater surface area and thus provide better cooling, but as you say, copper isn’t cheap these days.
May 22, 2011 at 10:40 am #30969I’ve seen prep areas with a grid floor like that, but not an actual room.
And as for your other idea – there are such things as wet back or water wash booths too, normally used for powder coating or smaller items, so maybe that kind of idea could be modified to suit your needs. A grid floor with a constant stream of recirculating water beneath it. You’d have to be very careful about dropping stuff though!!
May 22, 2011 at 12:14 am #30955I’ve used both, but much prefer the LPH80.
I agree with some of the comments above though – the baby sata does give a better fan if you’re doing larger areas, but the atomisation of the LPH is so much better, so colour matching and blending is effortless. Overspray and air consumption are minimal too.
And as Paul says, the Minijet is much more fragile than your average sata. We’ve broken several in the space of a couple of years, but I’ve yet to have any problem with my LPH. And as for the W100 – it’s a really nice gun and we have a couple lying around, but they’re not much good for me as the side mounted pot isn’t very leftie-freindly!
May 20, 2011 at 11:15 pm #30934That seems to do the trick, but I find an anti-static panel wipe is good enough for me. What kind of money are you talking for that?
And I’m guessing it’s a current model Fiesta…
May 19, 2011 at 12:28 am #30914
HERE is a sight when you click on the paint you want it tells you how to apply it.

May 19, 2011 at 12:26 am #30913Thanks for the technical explanation Damien, but I look at it with layman’s logic – the air gets hotter when we compress it, so surely it gets colder when it expands 🙂
There may be a further development to this story however.
I’ve almost convinced my mate to buy a bigger compressor that’s up for sale locally. Around 30CFM with a 500 litre tank (~130 US Gallons I think). We’re hoping to house this in an outside store at the back of his premises. Due to the sloping nature of his site the pipework will then come straight up around 20′ to reach inside the main building, where I’ll then put the smaller 100 litre tank and some kind of distribution piping.
That should sort it!
May 16, 2011 at 12:38 am #30880Nice work :rock
I’ll have one of those to paint come summer (if the owner ever gets all the welding finished!). Hope it turns out as well as that.
May 15, 2011 at 1:40 pm #30863Are you after something subtle Tommy, or a proper flake job? If it’s the former then I’d also be tempted to use some red xyrillic. I’d be adding it to a clear binder and go over the top of what you’ve got (once scuffed and prepped of course!) Not too much though – a little goes a long way. I did a mates Supra like that, straight black base with a touch of ICI Crystal xyrillic over the top, and he loved it.
For a big flake, try Ibbotson flake, or find them on ebay. I’ve dealt with them a few times and they’re ok.
May 11, 2011 at 10:19 am #30807I like the pipe cooler idea, but:
Plus if you use the bucket of ice you have a place to keep your beer close and cold while you paint! :cheers
That’s got to be the best idea yet! :rock
I have an 80 gallon….. which is a whole bunch of liters…. ducted into a pair of 20 gallon tanks taken from old dead compressors.
It was a picture of your set up that gave me the idea in the first place.Cheers for the replies & ideas guys. I’m sure I can make something work now.
May 10, 2011 at 12:05 am #30776Hi there.
There are quite a few of us UK guys around now. It just goes to show there’s nowhere as good as this place where we are!
May 3, 2011 at 9:41 pm #30683As Ryan says it’s been purpose designed for basecoat, so it’s no surprise that it isn’t perfect for clear. Give it a go with some base and tell us how you get on 😉
