Very nice. Get that sort of finish on the outside and I’m sure you’ll be very happy.
Another thing to mention is if you’re getting a ton of *** in your basecoat. You’re probably hammering it on too wet. It isn’t clear. it doesn’t need to be a lake.
Until you move to water base of course, when just short of running is ideal 😉January 22, 2010 at 1:59 am #18838Ha – great idea :woohoo:
I’m not eligible with this as I don’t have a picture of the actual run, but this was my biggest to date. I shot this whole van in one go (including the roof), and the other side had a run almost down the full length, around 15 foot long. You can see the obvious candidate – the body line halfway up the side (no window on the other side). And yes, I had to re paint that section

I’ve heard it’s ‘cos they give the passengers something to grab hold of when they climb out :lol1Seriously though, it’s so long since I did any ‘proper’ work like that I’m getting flabby! I think in the past 2 years I’ve only replaced three panels, and they were bolt on! We don’t even have a welder here
So hats off to you guys doing the real work
January 20, 2010 at 10:31 pm #18814I can’t seem to find a link to the actual product I use, but it’s very similar to this:

Thin card does work well in some circumstances though, but I’d never thought of using playing cards!

Heck thats just a fender andy. You can make somethin that small that smooth with an airbrush   :P
Ha ha…Maybe you can, but a guy like me needs as much help from his equipment as possible! :lol1I used to be fine laying down 3 coats of MS clear, but 1½ coats of HS is a whole different story. This gun makes even a mediocre painter like me look good! 😛
If you were going with Iwata I would get the new WS-400. It will be far superior to the W-400 you have available over there. Maybe Andy will chime in but he just got the WS-400 and seems to love it.
Better late than never :woohoo:Yes, I’m totally loving the WS400 clear gun I’ve got. All being well there’s a guy from Iwata UK coming to see me tomorrow – hopefully packing the base gun for me to try too. I had a guy working for me briefly on the prep side, and he owned one (WS400 base), and said it was the best base gun he’d ever used. Coming from a background of 20 years painting with SATA and Devilbiss, it must be pretty good.
Let you know how it goes, but here’s what the Clear version can do:

Not bad for my first ever go with it using a HS clear 🙂
January 10, 2010 at 6:13 pm #18533I do miss the good old MS clear days 🙁
Mind you, by the time I’ve finished tuning this fancy new Iwata, I reckon I’ll be getting those results with UHS :cheer:
January 10, 2010 at 6:10 pm #18532Great stuff. You definitely need to start charging for the detailing enhancements 😉
January 6, 2010 at 11:06 pm #18473Not exactly an ideal choice given you aren’t experienced at this sort of thing. Just about anything is repairable if you throw the right amount of time and money at it, but I really hope you got it dirt cheap.
Best of luck 🙂

Nice! Are you adjusting the panel gaps at a later date?
:rofl Just kidding! I’m sure it lines up fine, it’s just the pictures making it look otherwise.
January 3, 2010 at 8:14 pm #18412Are you sure you pimped this site enough? 😛
Another great vid, and yes I do like to watch them all. Dialogue is just about legible, but like you say maybe an external mic is a good idea.
I thought you were leaning against the fender while putting the sealer on – I was expecting to see a ‘naked’ patch when you moved away :lol1 Must just be the camera angle.
that looks nice what did ya use on that base an clear or ss
Huh? I don’t think he’s painted it yet.
Those pictures are in reverse order by the looks of it 😉
December 31, 2009 at 2:50 am #18378They do look a great towel – especially at that offer price!
CGUK don’t seem to have those though, just the yellow “super towels”. I have been contemplating trying out the Sasquatch ones for wax removal and final buffing, as I’m using the Eurow double density “shag” ones at the minute, which are fine, but a little on the small side for me.
I use the costco ones too. They’re pretty good for the price, and having a bunch of them handy is great for removing compounds and polishes on a big job, but I prefer something fluffier for finishing off with.
