i dont trust poly it realy is bitch for moisture retention and to be honest with todays two part stoppers and high build primers i realy fail to see the need for the stuff ,as for using waterbased near it then again beware as it realy doese suck up water and the danger of microblistering is always worrying with poly hence why i avoid it
I’m not sure what you mean when you say, “solids jobs”. My lack of understanding the terminology makes me think you are adding up to 25% high solid clear into your base coat, but I’d like to be sure.
I’m sorry to be such a pain, but I’d really like to understand what you are describing. Thanks for the help and advice.
no not to base to 2K single stage finishes
if i am double clearing a job then mostly i use P400 on a DA ,the second clear session will hold a better gloss as the first has acted as a sealer coat ,imo basecoats and primers act like blotting paper creating some dieback you can of course reclear without sanding within 24 hours of the first aplication as it will still crosslink to the first clear aplication
AirGunza HTE 1.8 or a devilbiss FLG 5 transtech 1.8 ,dont waste your time with HVLP for primers they lack sufficiant air velocity to enable good atomisation and decent transfer rates when used for higher viscoty materials ,conventional high pressure is about the best for primers but you could fall foul of regulations even though with thicker materials they can have higher transfer rates than HVLP
my favourite trick is to add up to 25% clear to my solids jobs ,apart from the gloss it produces it also aids flow ,imo solids give superior depth to clear over base jobs i much prefer the finish but ultimatly you need a good product in the first place also two sessions generaly give superior gloss retention as the first will act like a sealer coat stopping any die back on the second
i avoid thinners in HS clears and i also avoid the temptation to whack a third coat on if it isnt needed ,if you thought you hadnt got enough on the bonnet then what made you feel there was enough on the sides becouse a bonnet is usualy where we all tend to flood it on ,as for flash tmes it depends on temp and airflow ,five minutes sounds a bit ambitiuos to me ,i rely more on what the product is telling me than my watch 😉
