Another job well done, good for you Mo :cheers So what is your next project??
thanks jay, maybe ill post a collision job for a change lol
You do collision work? I thought all you did was completes :p
Your work looks great as usual! :rock
Is it that Matte Dark Grey Metallic? You might not be able to get a formula for it…at one shop we got the best matches for those with the SEM aerosol trim paints. Colour was good and the matte finish matched well too.
Do you have a chip book you can use to match up the trim colour?
As a rule whenever I have stress, I like to find the source of the stress and then break his legs.:clappy
Its a good idea in theory; however, I am not a big guy…maybe 130 lbs…
My thoughts have always been that if you can’t change others, then you can certainly change your environment or yourself. In big city with ample job opportunities its just easier to move on 😉
I was looking at some Martin Manure Etch P-Sheets the other day. And I saw that E-coat was one of the listed substrates.
And I thought the same thing: What’s the point? :huh:But I guess it applies the same as to using it over Fillers.
Nobody is going to waste all their etch covering all their filler work, (Although with the Cost of Etch I’m sure they’d like you to.)
But I think it’s entirely just listed so that you can spot in burn through’s, and not have to worry about being extremely careful around the surrounding coatings.Although I do think that many people mis-read these P-sheets and try to put the stuff on like epoxy.
Which in the end just ends up costing them a lot of coin.
I think the idea is that if you have burn throughs in the E-Coat, you can etch the bare metal prior to sealing (if your sealer isn’t DTM). So some etch does go over the E-Coat.
Thats good to hear Ben! I too just switched jobs. Its been a good move for me. Im now doing combo work. Hope everything works out well for you. The GMs are what Im use to working on. I think you will like em better than chryslers:dnc
Thanks. Hope the new job keeps going well for you. I’m still getting use to the GMs, I have mixed feelings about how they’re put together, but in all honesty, no better or worse than anything else.
first couple pics look like the floor is gridded up for frame work do they still use that type of system there??
We are using the Wedge Clamp system (like Stone). We use the old grid for holding down the tower. Honestly, I have never seen a grid like that before and can only guess what the old system was like. Would it have been an old Guy Chart floor system??? I dunno, I’m probably young enough to be your Great grandson Bondo, your expertise on antiquated equipment might be useful :rofl
Today was busy with lots of little stuff…I was the only one in the shop
Just about got the 2500 done. Just waiting for a few small pieces before I finish the bumper and grille.

[b]And the front with the old bumper…
lild, when using your fisheye elmin, you said you put the first coat on dry? so the second wouldn’t run?
How long did you wait inbetween the dry and the second coat.
Generally that helps with not running. But the idea with a fisheye is that you can sometime burry it with clear. But if you put a lot of clear on, it will just flow away from the fish eye (contaminant), and on a vertical panel might run, I suppose. The first coat (medium) will help give a solid foundation. Otherwise you want a lot of clear on so you have enough clear to wet sand/polish afterwards.
When you get fisheyes you wind up trying all sorts of things, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. The only thing that holds true with all, is that they piss you off.
must be heaven working there compared to the last place, and a nice natural lighted shop. gmc looks like its coming along well and the other jobs look like a lot of fun to work on.
Yeah, the jobs aren’t too bad. I haven’t worked on a lot of GMs, so I am still figuring out how they’re all put together and my 13mm socket is getting quite the work out.
The natural light is nice! :rock

Some things that are needed from booth companies right now are affordable waterborne drying options. Hand held venturis are not a viable option for those in more humid climates and without the proper air to run them. 3-phase electric is mandatory for larger compressors and not all shops have access to it.
Most good drying options are upwards of 10K per booth. With the profit margins a bodyshop makes an extra 10K isn’t likely laying around. There really isnt a mid priced option out there that works well. Something in the 2-4K range installed would help the majority of shops out there.
For the people that can afford a system like the corner blowers or ceiling fans I feel Global’s offerings are the least attractive. They are bulkier than Jun-air’s and also dont have a door the cover the nozzles when not in use. The size could be overcome easily but the doors are pretty necessary imo. You dont want dirty air blowing through your booth.
I feel this will become a big market as the rest of the country has to start complying with lower voc laws in the coming years.
Ryan, excellent feedback. I’m going to share this with our team. This is the kind of information that we want to hear. Although I’d love all positive feedback, negative feedback is great too because it will allow us to improve our products/services to the benefit of the end user. Thanks!
I have used Global booths as well as several others. Definately one of the better companies (IMHO). I agree with Ryan, a good drying system is necessary, especially one that is affordable and can be retrofitted into other booths
