He was doing the old classic Gene Winfield kustom painting trick of doing a bottom color fading into the top color, cool trick used on the old leadsleds back in the day.I think he had to match a fade job that had a repair done to it.
Thanks. That is what I was thinking. Saw that he blended the colour out from the front, and was trying to fade it from bottom to top.

lild, if you don’t mind me asking, how did they calculate the refinish time to “custom match” that paint? I would hope you got paid a lot better than standard book time.

Looks like a good video. I look forward to some final pics.

Maybe I am a little slow, or a little blind…

What exactly were you doing to the truck? Blending a colour from the bottom to the top?

I used to use one like that, and it seems to be the most common one. The trouble I had with it is that sometimes they would jam (and it was a b*tch to un jam), and they made it hard to do rivets in wheel wells due to clearance.

This is what I have now:
    Marson Riviter

It is super easy to squeeze, fairly easy to get in wheel wells around the tire, and due to the design, almost impossible to get jammed. I don’t know why everyone doesn’t use this one instead. :rock
I have one of those i got in a kit. dont know if its defective but the teeth wont grab the shanks of the rivot to set them.
Must have been defective…unless the 1 I have was exceptionally built :p

It does sound like a very interesting system. Very flexible (With options).
geez dont ya just use the black drywall screws an black zip ties ya get at lowes
I had a Civic come in and the front bumper was held on with a drywall screw, screwed into the inch of Bondo on the fender. And that was the better part of the repair.

Anyway, fasteners are well worth the price. I haven’t heard of many of these places.

    Welcome, and Merry Christmas!

I’m not sure where you are, but the best place to get it from is a fastener supplier like Wurth. THey will set you up with an assortment (based on your needs) and keep you stocked. They also supply other products as well.

Around here there is a company Called Wheel In Motion supply, they are like Wurth, but with better service.

Looks like quite the project to keep you busy for a while. Is this yours, or are you doing this for someone else?

All the booth coatings I have seen are more like spray mask. It basically dries like paint, but can be washed away afterward or peeled off (depending on the type). I have never heard of a sticky one.

Is the dust from the booth, vehicle or possibly you? How well sealed is the booth, does it maintain positive pressure (or is it not pressurized)? Are you using good quality filters and are they changed? Is the booth, intake and exhaust clean? Is your air hose clean, or old and caked in paint?

Every once in a while I can’t access the site, just get the 404 time out error, as if the site is down (possibly for maintenance). This happened most recently yesterday (Dec. 21) around 4pm my time (MST, I think thats 6 in Ontario Jimmo).
Thanks, I will try it out when the PPG rep is back from Holiday.

I will also try to order some but it’s a hassle to get anything here and out of custom… I would like to try some blue and red.

The local painters ask about $100-200 to paint a car and I can’t compete with that so what I would like to try is some
specially effect paint and things like that.

    Dag
You would be lucky to buy enough paint for a car, here, for $200.

Blues and reds should be good colours to work with, being as many of their toners are somewhat translucent. Keep us posted on how this works out for you!
