The guns are the same besides the air cap.
Iwata recommends use of the silver cap for clear and the orange for most bases.
Lots of people just use the silver cap for everything.
I don’t own the orange cap. Just silver and purple.
I’m not a huge fan of the Iwata for base. Love it for clear though.

I paid around $60 for a box of 10.
I’ve been using the 4 1/2″ ones that chuck up to a grider alot lately.

February 2, 2010 at 8:30 pm #19220Maybe so, but once I have slap on a third smear of filler in one area I start feeling guilty for some reason.
Sometimes you just gotta go the cave and pave route no matter what though.
February 2, 2010 at 8:14 pm #19218I used various styles of clean and strip disc for most of it, with some help from a 50 grit disc on a high speed sander to quickly dig out the old mud work.

February 2, 2010 at 8:04 pm #19214The silver cap is the original cap… works great with clear and solid colors…. problem; it didn’t work so great with difficult metallics
Then came the LVB purple cap… to deal with problem metallics… problem; it’s slow as molasses to spray with, & requires a change in air pressure at the gun and moving the gun in closer to the panel for desired results, it’s introduction wasn’t that well received.
Sooooo,,, the LVX extreme orange cap was born…. it’s a cap that behaves very similar to the silver cap in terms of spray technique and speed, while yeilding desired results when spraying 90-95% of the metallics out there.
Not wanting to make the purple cap sound like a total failure Iwata still recommends that for the 5-10% of metallics that the extreme cap can’t handle.
Clear as Mud?
Call those guys in the link,,, they have great pricing on SATA’s too.
Hows the durability on that Napa clear? Does it have an amber cast to it??
The durabilty is excellent. I’ve been using it for a few years now, so far no problems to speak of. Stuff is damned near bulletproof.
As for what your calling a amber cast,, that depends. While it’s not a crystal clear as some others I’ve used it’s much more clear than any of the other Napa clears I’ve used over the years.
I wouldn’t hesitate to call it a water clear clear if that’s what your asking.
Maybe bondo will take a pic of a puck for you.. It’s all he uses.

Nope, that’s just the way that $75/kit Napa clear looks off the gun.
Good Stuff.
