I can see some panel re-palcement happening on that one, definately some cave it and pave it happening on that quarter.Doesn’t look like a bad car though.I have a soft spot for 72 chevelle’s cause I own one…….jeez I need to finish it  Aftermarket full 1/4’s fit real nice on those cars, I have done a few sets.Maybe you could talk him into one??Keep us posted on progress.
He brought me a few patch panels that came wiith the car when he bought it. It really needs a drivers quarter, but I’ll probably just do a little massaging and some patch work here and there and mud it back up.

This won’t be a full tilt resto by any means, the owner just wants it shiny on the outside. He’s going through cancer treatments now and would like to get it finished fairly quickly.

I did this 69 Camaro and 70 El Camino for the same owner over the past few years.
Wow, why do people load cars full of filler like that – that’s just hideous. What’s the story on that lift? Looks like a cool addition to any garage.
Sadly this one will still be loaded with filler when I’m done with it.

The lift is a mid rise unit from greg smith equipment. Nice for body work, not so great for mechanical stuff. Kinda like a king size floor jack.

I’ve got the hutchins orbital long board as well as a ND small version of the same thing,, never use ’em.

Also have a viking knock off from Napa that sees more use than the orbitals but not that much more use.

Usually just go with the ND 8″ Mud Hog then a manual block from there.

My guess is that the big, big, big shops aren’t paying the same $$ that a small guy is for that high end paint. Or maybe the paint cost ’em close to the same but the paint company bought the big shop a booth,,, etc.

But face it, shop rent, equipment payments, power, taxes, insurance, relying on 1 man to do the work while still having enough money to pay a mortgage and feed the family would be tough.

The key to your shop is low overhead…..

    October 12, 2009 at 5:18 am #16404

I work for free. That’s the secret to a long waiting list of clients.

All kidding aside I don’t know how you small shops do it. Seems like the overhead vs. amount of work that a few guys crank out would eat you alive.

Just shrink or even kink the metal enough to get it to stop oil canning then fill it (burn through holes and all). It’s just a gate on a fleet truck.

any thing worth doin is worth doin right …. I gotta know , how much??

I quoted $9000.00 for a similar job :pcorn:

Ummm, I pocketed less than $1K on it and he still thinks I over charged him.

It was a joint project. He did the disassembly/reassembly and blasted most of the stuff before he brought it to me,, sorta 😉 .

He’s probably got around $2K tied up in the redo.

Pics aren’t the greatest since it was under a carport. 😉 Might get some better ones next time I’m out that way.
