Nex, you’re a very wise man :kofee

this is a dilemma for all of us with homemade booths. since real booth typically have 1.5million btu forced air heat, there is no simple solution. My solution in the old shop was blast the shop heat until the whole place was 80 degrees. then when the air is all sucking through the booth fans outside at least it’s warm for a while. then fire up the reddy heater again.

    good stuff, Ratstang.

Mine is exactly like the sharpe, but black. that is a mass produced chinese filter that everybody sticks their brand name on. I’ve been very happy with it.

water trap is the shop name of a basic water/air separator. the simplest type of filter, and the first stage of a 3 stage filter system.

you want one with a self drain so when you drain the tank at night it spits out the water it has collected.

that looks a little small to me. I had 1″ galvanized pipe in my old shop, and got a filter with 1″ fittings on it. no need for a regulator at that point. I have 3/4″ now, and just adapt in and out of the filter. I’d say go with a plain jane water trap with 3/4″ inlet and outlet.

the sharpe 3 stage has a regulator at the end, but I relocated it further down the line.

I’ve sprayed both, and the urethane SS. urethane was great, crossfire is diarrhea, tec base seems fine, and the tec clear is so-so.

mind you, I’m not a pro painter.

I have an 80 gallon compressor with 2 extra tanks, 20 gal each. I have NO water after that. I run it through a 1″ high volume water trap.

at the paint room I have it going through a Sharpe 6760. I’ve been very happy with it.

    3/4″ copper everywhere.

I have had a series of horror stories with ‘martin manure’ (same as SW)

the 2 colors I have blended were both mediocre.

I got a $600 compressor when I was 17, and I’m still using it. 80 gallon, 10.9 scfm at 90 psi. I run my LVLP iwata no problem. It’s a high speed, single stage, cast iron, 2 cylinder, not rated for continuous duty, cheap compressor, but it’s been in use in my shop for 6 years of ‘occasional use’

Some day I’ll step up to a real compressor with an HVLP

    Joe,
in Brian’s defense, he has been working with plastic for years. Before he came on here with some paint work he was doing plastic fabrication.
