I will add, I would sooner dip my car every year or 2 than ‘clear bra’ my car, if it was brand new and I didn’t intend to keep it indefinitely, or a lease or something. That said, I’m the type of guy to take good care of my stuff and keep it for the long haul.
February 18, 2013 at 1:05 pm #41474I think you’ll need a huge tip, but when I asked the guys at ‘dipmycar.com’ they said it wasn’t worth the hassle…… of course they’re not painters. I would love to try it, myself.
It’s a great cheap, temporary coating. It’s great to give customers a cheap option, and to stay on top of the fad.
February 18, 2013 at 1:02 pm #41473I drink a lot, and my clear is always full of trash.
Myth: busted.
February 17, 2013 at 12:18 am #41420
Learned this trick, little reluctant to give it out. It’s really not a secret. Roll up an old playboy magazine. Add a couple layers of tape “length wise” Dude this block is the shit. Round curves reverse curves. Most used block I have. The little foam blocks are useful too more so with primer because they are so soft.
It takes a little while to break it in.
It’s critical you use a playboy. A People, or Time or Ebony or anything else will fail after the first use.

Although obviously that inferior brand of paint will shrivel up and fall off in a week :rock
February 4, 2013 at 2:03 pm #41053I only use the 36 or 40 to knock off the bulk of it. Then I hit it with the strip off wheel, which takes that rough-sanded paint/primer right down lickity split.
I make a point to bring it up to a fairly even 80 grit before I seal it up with epoxy, then blast poly primer on it.
February 2, 2013 at 11:52 am #40957These things are wicked. Depending on the paint I will use these (I have them in 8″ 🙂 ) and/or 36 on my 8″ rotary sander. Mows it down.
January 27, 2013 at 8:31 am #40674I absolutely always start with 80. No problems.
I’m finishing off every last sheet of all random sand paper I have and going to Eagle paper exclusively. Their MaxCut paper is the most amazing stuff for blocking I have ever seen.
January 10, 2013 at 5:00 am #40252Question – can’t you shoot a couple coats of regular clear, cut it flat, then shoot a final coat or 2 in the finish of choice? Get a good build as well as a flat finish? Or is 2 coats flat plenty of protection?
