What is done in practice?

Is the window removed for paint or would something like 3M Trim Masking tape be sufficient? I only need to scuff the area and hit with clear.
Thanks Joe,

I am just trying to do things the right away and I am learning. I been getting away from using incorrect fillers on plastic and trying my best to learn what materials work best. I am not too worried about knocking out bumpers as I do one every 3 weeks. This is just a hobby, so if I don’t have time to do it right the first time, I better have time to redo it. Had I made this video and left out some of those steps, I probably would had been knocked for not doing this or doing that :P
Nice work Nexson.

What type of fillers are you using? I’ve been having a tough time with Evercoat Polyflex Polyester Putty gumming up on me.

Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of reattaching the bumper throughout the process?

Chromabase / Basemaker this time, 8 minutes in between coats, 3 coats total for coverage. 2 Coats of SPI Universal clear applied 15 minutes after last BC with 20% reduction.

I understand it is difficult to judge a color match from pictures, but it would great to get some feedback as to whether this will be close enough to panel paint.

The original post should have been a little more clear regarding the last coat of BC I applied. I’m spraying with a Sata Mini Jet 1.0MM @ 29 PSI. For the last coat I reduced the pressure at the gun to 24 PSI or -5 from what I applied the first two coats with. (I edited the previous post to make this clarification).

Ben- Going forward I wont spray a drop coat but what is a flop controller? Basemaker / Actviator?

The tech sheet recommends using ChromaPremier Activator for flexible substrates. Since I will be spraying a bumper, I will pick up a quart at the shop along with the Basemaker.

    Will post updates…

Not the 2 best sources that I would trust

duponts basemaker is a parafin based reducer(thats why its cloudy looking) similar to Sherwin Williams. It helps with the stability of duponts base. using a uerthane base reducer is taking a chance
no mater what Barry or the 101 says
Ding, I will take you up on your suggestion and purchase the Basemaker. I don’t like the way that the color matches up to the existing panels on the car. I know its close to impossible to tell from the pic’s but to me it looks like the car is lighter / milkier in tone than what I sprayed out on the strut braces.

I will spray some test cards w/ Chromabase + Basemaker and see if there is an improvement in the match.

Various shots from different points on the car with different lighting / flash:

    I appreciate the input.

Apparently Dupont rep’s are saying that you can use Urethane Reducer with Chromabase as long as its a non-metallic. If its a metallic you have to add activator.
lot of epoxy on those. why not just put one coat of epoxy and some high build to level out the imperfections
I agree, it is a lot of Epoxy to use but it has a lot more durability than high build.
i woulda just dupli-colored dem lol
I am going to be painting a couple of panels on the car that these strut bar mounts are going to be installed on. Part of the reason they are getting Epoxy + BC / CC is for color matching purposes. I’m panel painting a fender + bumper (no blend in) so I need a good match.

    Continuing….

Back in the booth, Epoxy sanded with 600 Wet before BC

Getting the BC ready. ChromaBase mixed 1:1 with SPI Slow Reducer + a touch of SPI Clear Activator.

After 3 coats of ChromaBase (2 for coverage / 1 dusted on at 24 PSI reduced from 29 PSI at the gun + fan opened up 1/2 turn) and 2 Coats of SPI Universal Clear reduced 20%
