1. dont sand through the clear or
2. dust the first few coats of base on over the sand through or
3. prime or seal the sand throughs or
4. spray an overeduced coat of clear before basing to lock it all down or
5. use hardener in the base so if you do have to redo something and do sand through, it’s less likey to get softened by the reducerSeptember 17, 2011 at 3:10 am #32952and now you are saying to yourself, “its just a Colbalt. Should have left it” :compsmash
But it could be worse, You could be bloverby and it could be a bronco :deadhorse :whistle:September 17, 2011 at 3:09 am #32951cause you sanded through the clear on the edges and your basecoat wasnt hardened so the reducer softened the old base in the spots that were sanded through and that happened

September 15, 2011 at 4:21 am #32905
looks like a good job except for the blend on the pillar, i would like to see it a couple of years time.
Ya you’re right. i should have dropped the headliner, took the roof rack off, took the taillight out, dropped the corner of the rear cover and cleared the entire roof rail and rt 1/4 :blush:September 13, 2011 at 6:42 pm #32873well if he just sprayed the clear, no amount of buffing is gonna make it look better unless it gets sanded. its not like its old paint he is looking to restore.
also color sanding is not olny for show car finishes. Some people can apply clear with a grapefruit texture and color sanding helps to smooth it out to match existing finishesSeptember 13, 2011 at 3:48 pm #32870yes, you need to sand the clear before you buff it. as far as what compound is better… I prefer Meguirs 105
September 10, 2011 at 10:39 pm #32826rust free car. just had some bad bodywork done to it at one point in its life. wavy as a mother. Not sure why he thinks I can do any better

they will need to come out with a low voc version. kinda like dc3010 and 4010
but it will still suck :roflSeptember 9, 2011 at 1:55 am #32809Nothing for nothing, but if you are opening a bodyshop and you dont know who supplies paint around your area, you are in big trouble :pcorn:
Good luck
