TIME is why ! We may strip to bare metal Today not get back to it for a week or 2. Maybe letting it surface rust& just sanding that off with 80 g before epoxy priming would be better.
you cant tell me that shooting a coat of epoxy over the metal is going to take longer than scrubbing a phosphoric acid coating on the metal. and if time is such an issue shootin a coat of epoxy over the metal will save all that time of trying to strip that coating off when you are ready to work on it again. it will definitely be faster than having to redo the job if it fails due to that coating.
if for some reason you dont want to put it in epoxy while it sits you could always spray a coat of etch on it. that will protect the metal as well. then just give it a quick scuff when you are ready shoot one more light coat of etch on then epoxy. this trucks cowl has been sittin in etch for the last 2 years and no rust has formed

Just be careful. you could chip a nail on those dirt nibs in the roof 😛

are you spraying the single stage then wanting to clear, or is the car already painted and you want to add a clear on top. Either way it can be done with no problems. If the car has already been painted then you just need to sand it to prep it for clear. I would wet sand it with 600 and get the nooks and crannies with a grey scuff pad and sanding paste. Just be careful so you dont sand through any areas.
If you are planning on painting it single stage then clearing i would just go with a base/clear system instead.
And Welcome to the forum. we gotta talk about this jimmo and bondo doing quality work thing though :rofl dont want to give them a big head 😉

why not just put the bare metal in epoxy. wont take any longer than wiping on your concoction and will save you the time of wipin it off
