Hello or howdy and welcome. :welc

I’ve been an iwata fan for quite a few years. I have an lph 400 1.4 that I mainly use for sealer although it does a nice job with the primer we use ,a w400 1.3 lv4 for clear and my new favorite a ws400 evo hd 1.3 for clear. This is a compliant gun ment for mainly clear although I’ve heard it does a nice job on waterbase with the right set up.I still like my 3000b for base(solvent) though. :cheer:
Did you get some Platnium clearcoat? I have herd great things about it, but have never got my hands on any to spray, unfortanatly it is no longer available in my area.
haven’t been able to get any yet. Seems with my jobber its getting real hard to get free stuff anymore. Nobody in my area is using it and my sales rep told me they would have to order a case to get it. I’m not giving up though. I’m gonna check with my standox rep soon. :cheer:

lol just checking. I know a couple of guys who could. Wish I was one. 😛 We quit doing rust repair a long time ago and I’m glad. Hard for customers to understand that we had no warranty on rust repairs. I still do some on the side but still no warranty. 😉
Thanks all for the tips, and thanks Dlambert for the feedback on the ws400. Your work looks great. I’ve been experimenting with different hardeners and viscosities. The 16252 seems too slow to me. Maybe I don’t have the airflow that you guys do. I also don’t have a bake booth so everything must airdry.
Standox has a fast dry additive you can use in place of thinner up to 5%. I only use it in the 15-60 for bumper and small side panel jobs because in that clear it can cause dieback on large or horizontal panels. I’ve been told that it does well in the 16252 so it may help in your shop. :cheer:
maybe 3m foam tape? a couple rows?
Spray coats until you achieve desired texture letting it fade up to the foam tape. Then take 1 row off and spray another letting it go on up.Then after it dries maybe a little light sanding of the edge if it needs it. I’ve done it this way before with good results. :cheer:
Been using Standox solvent base for the past two years, on light metallic colours I always mix some 599 with reducer at a ratio around 1/1. I put this down first and blend my colour into it, never had an issue but you must match your colour well. :cheers
I use the 599 that way sometimes but more often I use the ready to spray basecoat colorless (16150) I agree about matching your color well and add that the color can be off a little but if the flake size and/or the color flop are not right it will not blend well at all. :cheers
Thanks for the reply. I can get decent results with w400lv. I tried 1.3 and 1.4fn. 1.3 seemed to break it up better but I felt it was slow and had to work at it too much. I’d like to hear how the ws400 hd 1.3 works out for you as that’s the exact gun I’ve been considering but am unsure if I should get standard 1.3 or hd version.
Luke, I’ve used this gun for about a month now and I’m quite impressed with it. I did demo a supernova 1.3 when they first came out. It did a nice job but IMO was a little slow. The hd 1.3 is much faster and really sprays a soft pattern. I recommend you demo one for a while if you can. I wouldn’t buy any gun without trying it. Maybe give the 15-60 a shot with this gun. Like I posted earlier I like spraying this clear around 17sec vis. That may or may not work for you. I really like knowing the viscosity of my clears. Also try to match your hardener&reducer with the booth temp. With Standox there is a good bit of overlap in theyr’e temp. ranges so I also take the size job, humidity, and peel I’m trying to match into consideration. Also try different pressure settings. Hope this information helps you out. If you decide to go with this gun don’t forget to check on e-bay. I got mine from a place in the U.K. brand new with warranty shipped to USA for a total of $450. :cheer: Here is a job I did last week with this gun and the 15-60 clear @27 psi.

😆 don’t know if I’m being pedantic about it but I do use HVLP fittings and open my gun and regulator up all the way and adjust pressure on the wall using my regulator as a guage only. Yes I did have to look up “pedantic”.

all variants in Dupont and Standox solvent are base/clear now.

had an Iwata rep. tell me concerning the RTI regulator that you should have it turned all the way down before connecting an air line to it. I try to do this but I was wondering if this was important or not.
