Consider doing some graphics too. It doesn’t have to be elaborate.
Simple two/three tones and kandies should a add a few more bucks.
Unlike a car, not much paint is needed.

Why not get a few test sets to practice on?

Sounds like a good idea!

Done!

What masking paper is that?

Sadly, stuff like that is common around here too. Imagine just how many
of those are on the road. And the owners are generally paying a rediculous
interst rate. Financing is where they make the money…

All the trash in my paint job made me very good at polishing. 🙂

Looks good!

I’d go with Dell for computers. And get a good monitor too. With this forum,
and all the videos, it’s a very good investment!

OK, the tram gauge came in… It’s OK for a quick analysis, and maybe as
a hood prop. 🙂

Actually, i can modify this and make it better.

If bondomerchant can make it with 8 kids, then I have no excuse… I’ve got tons to
learn. And now that I have a few years under my belt, I have a better idea about a
bunch of things… Mainly, I need to be a better businessman. And I’m on it.

Keeping the overhead low is obviously critical. And being a small timer, I’m not
tied in to any brand. Tried quite a few low to high-end stuff, and quite frankly,
the base hasn’t been all too important; it’s about the primers and clears. And, like
Jim, SPI is it.

What works for me? I’m very good with people.
How much does a setup of that Transtar Euro run ya?
It’s been a while but i pay around $130 a kit. For nearly 2 gallons,
that’s a bargain. And it holds up well. The only bad thing is the
amber cast; not so good for spots but great for allover jobs.

I have a Hutchins Hustler too. And a few others. But they all are collecting
dust. It’s much easier by hand and/or DA. My 6″ National Detriot DA is good
enough for just about anything.

Of course, for course sand papers, Eagle MaxCut is the way to go. 🙂

Welcome to the forum fellas!

I’m a small 2 man hole-in-the-wall shop. I’ve been in this business since 2004; certainly
not as experienced as most of the guys here. What keeps me up at nights? Where do I begin?!
Last year was a disaster and it will haunt me for some time. But this year – all things
considered – has been good (so far). Too much to say, really.

I’m tired of talking about this terrible economy. Nothing but bad news everywhere.
And the story is the same with all the other small business owners I know. It’s survival
mode for most of us.

Like Stone and all the other members of this forum, I enjoy the work. It’s more than
just a business. We are also enthusiasts. This is good for ourselves and our customers.

Rather than talking about what keeps us up at nights, let’s discuss what’s positive;
the things that work for us. And whatever that’s working in these tough economic times,
would be a lot more insightful and interesting.

And so I’ll start a new thread. 🙂

I’ve tried a few gallons of U-Pol clear. It’s not bad… Can be a real PIA to buff
so I stopped using it. Not worth the aggravation… And there are better clears
within the same price range. Here’s a few:

Transtar Euro Classic – Slightly amber. High solids. Somewhat on the softer side and EASY to buff. Great DOI.

SPI MS Clear – No amber cast. High solids. Somewhat soft. Easy buffin. Just perfect, really.
