Looks like a good candidate for some custom graphics. 🙂
Han, I found out the other day that the No-Mix is Standox with a secret sauce that makes it no mix.
Interesting. I’ll have a chat with a Transtar rep…

Yes, charge a bit more! Especially for individuals. People come to you not because of price but out
of trust. The average Joe/Jane have no idea on what a good deal is. Over time, the price isn’t
much of an issue. All they know is that they can trust you even if your quote is higher than most.
I don’t mind too much paying a bit more for materials/supplies as long as the service excellent.

I turn down LOTS of jobs where i can make a profit. Mainly due to improper attitudes.
Some come in as if they’re doing you a favor… And then there are nice ones, that i
practically do the job for free and go the extra miles for. THEY are the ones that bring
in more for me. Again, it’s about trust.

Jim, yes, it is about time. Heck, It doesn’t have to be a full write-up; pics of various
stages will work. Maybe some hints along the way. 🙂

Ryan, i started with a simple ghost flame job. And Jim here was the guy who helped me out.
It’s like a slightly more elaborate two tone job. OK, a lot more.

I bought the W66 a few months ago. Didn’t like it with any of the wool pads.
Less feedback from the thick foam. Maybe that and the stiff backing of the
other wool pads wasn’t a good combo. But it’s great with this particular pad.

I understand. But my overhead is higher, which is a major factor in the price.

Believe me, i’m not a greedy person at all. But i really think you should have charged at least $350.
We use the same materials and i know them to be very durable. So i’m confident that the job will
last for many years to come. As it’s proven to be. It’s also a strong selling point.

Didn’t realize that YOU did the job. And i already know you care about the quality of your work.
Most shops/individuals are not, so for $280 from some unknown shop, i would be suspicious.

Well, generally, the more one pays, the better the odds. That’s the thing about this business,
a low price isn’t and indication of a “good deal.” Rather, it’s the opposite. The difference
between $280 – $600 is huge. But question why? Why such a large price discrepancy?

For a regular customer – which is all i have – i’d probably charge around $450/$500.
And it would be a good deal in that i was thorough and used decent materials.
I do sand as thorough as possible but for $280, i wouldn’t put in the effort. And odds
are, that job was rushed; i almost certain of it.

This is a good one!

Will you be doing more? If/when time permits of course..

August 1, 2009 at 2:47 am #15084

2 maybe 3 days and $550/$600. Lifetime guarantee (must be orginal paint). *Might include a basic wash.
Bumper does get painted separately.

it can’t be my imagination, but the MS seems just a tad harder than the universal (not much).
Getting it swirl free is very easy unlike the universal… Long term durability with these clears
are proven, so i feel confident using them. I hope the 2020 is as durable.

BK and Jim, you guys HAVE to get this wool pad. And a foam backing plate.

Looking at my supplies/materials, some of the best products wont be found on shelves
or even easily found on line. And is practically unknown…

Jimmo, the welder is a breeze to use. And those tiny rods last forever. The fiberflex isn’t as strong
as a 2 part adhesive; i prefer using 3M Structural adhesive or even JB Weld for headlamp tabs (PP).
Headlamps, air cleaner boxes, or even just one bumper and the welder kit pays for itself. It’s a must have.

July 30, 2009 at 4:03 am #15043

How’s the plastic welder working out for you? And is that urethane?

I was using mine a few hours ago for a PP front bumper cover. Used the FiberFlex.

Thanks BK!

I hear ya. The 2020 is great for collision stuff. But any of the clears work great for any job, really.
For me, the MS is the best all-around clear.
