http://www.automagic.biz/Meguiars offers lots products for fleet/volume work
But for really high end work, there are better products available. This is what i try to concentrate on.
These guys do serious high end stuff and charging a premium:

http://www.autopia.org/forum/pro-details-before-after/117109-07-ferrari-599-gtb-correction.htmlIt’s worth a try. But most dealerships have their backs against the wall and it would be hard to
squeez a nickel out of them. And detailing work is usually kept in house…However, why not offer detailing services to the general public? Or upsales for certain collision
customers?I’m sure many come in for minor repairs like bumper covers, why not offer to clay/wax the entire
vehicle for an additional $100 or so; discounted from your regular $130? Interior shampoo is
another great upsale. For major paint “correction” jobs (4-5 steps), or even a minor 2 step correction, this can be very
involved and your guys would likely need some training. Autopia.org has all the info you need
regarding all aspects of detailing. Some tid bits:

Gots to tack! Haven’t you noticed all the over spray that wipes off?! It really is a must do. Also helps to blow
off the surface while tacking too. And the surrounding paper. With one tack cloth, you do several cars. I keep a plastic container nearby with a few.
I did a 73 Alfa Spider and it was a nightmare. Bondo city! But i did manage to get 5g’s out of it…
What is the value of the stang? Probably around 8g’s or so… I’m sure there are some hidden filler work to
deal with. I’d want 6 hours on the hood, 3 on each fender, 25 hours on roof, 15 on the quarter, blend
lid, blend r/quarter, R&I front and rear glass, new trim pieces and get the owner to kick in some more $
to paint it all. This is just going to turn out to be another SPI promotional thing… It’s not even intentional either.
To be able to interact with the owner is great. He listens to his customers and may make adjustments
to the products. That’s “unheard of.” Barry operates his business the old fashioned way. And that’s how
i operate mine as well; albeit at a much smaller scale.I’ve used lots of that Marhyde Ultimate 2K. It’s not bad for the money but the SPI Regular 2K is considerably
better; plenty of build, fast drying, virtually no shrinking and low cost. Probably the same price range too.Making an order next week for more clears and primers. And i’m going to try the new sealer; this should be good.
Happy B day to you too!
Glad you got some small collision work coming in. Quick jobs equal quick cash! I’m getting quite a few of these
non insurance cash jobs (the best kind). It’s usually a lot more profitable than completes. But, just like you,
I know these folks quite well and tend to do more. Customers are completely amazed at a quick clay/wax job.Screwed up two small jobs. Need to repaint a hood on a Camry and 3 panels on an Acura MDX. It’s been a while
so i’m due. There goes my weekend!jimmo, sometimes, there’s nothing you can do. She decided before bringing the car in… When i get attitudes
like that, i return the favor. I tell them, “This is what i do for a living. No advertisements. Just strictly word-of-mouth.
I can’t afford to rip people off and stay in business. There is Maaco across the street that can do it cheaper…”However, gotta be careful too. Sometimes, people are just extremely scared to get ripped off and may show
some attitude just out of fear; not necessarily by the price of the repair. It’s a case by case basis and not always
easy to gauge a persons intentions/personality. So, i make minor adjustments to my “I make a living” bit. I may
leave out the Maaco part and adjust my tone (smile or straight faced). It can be all in the delivery. My main rule is to never push a sale. Never.
Very good thread. I’d be rather concerned with not having enough clear; what if the panel needs to be
sanded and polished? And with just one coat, that would be very sketchy. Andy, you bring up a good point
about sanding the panel down with 1200. I use P800 myself which removes a lot of OE clear.- AuthorPosts
