I know your troubles…and there are more than one problems for scratches on black paint…
As a Detailer,I can say to You: Single stage or Clearcoated,is not much different…As someone has writed indeed ,Black is an infamous colour that show you everything pretty well and with great pleasure…
There’s no difference between an hard or a soft Black surface… twice can suffer even the simple touch of your hands and become dull and cloudy to the eyes….It’s only an optical effect in this case…Talking about buffing,a soft surface can tend to appear much better with less efforts than with an hard clearcoated one…
Remember these things as a bible with Black paint:
Always use new and soft quality MF towels (70/30 if not 75/25)Alway prep the surface to be buffered with a previous wash, claybarring and rinsing after treatment
(it’s better to dry with compressed air and a towel that have to touch the surface but not stripe over it)
Always use perfectly clean buffing pads and keep it clean during the session (compounding specially)
Change frequently towels during removal of the product residues,as the compound or polish particles in fibers, can will be hard after a little simply by the air action on it…And this means to scratch again the surface buffed minutes before…
At the hand of the work…take a breath and apply a coat of a good wax (BETTER IF NOT HARD PASTE TYPE)…Choise something that is simple to remove after cure and not less important NEW SOFT TOWEL again…….
Hope to be of help Mate… :rock
