My supplier seems to be happy with matrix low voc solvent and another low voc solvent base called Urki (distributed by carsystem/carworx in canada)They seem to be easy to spray so I have been told.
Sikkens superior 250 is a 2.1 voc clear sprays easy and does not pop, same with matrix AG40LV.It is a little more work but I have done many a complete with waterborne.

I have been using autowave for 4 years and really don’t have any complaints.Yellows and reds cover a white sealer fine and all metallics are 2 coats plus a drop, pretty decent IMO.Color match is also excellent.
If you can why don’t you set up some demos of each system and then you can get a feel for each product before you commit.

I have not had as much time to work on this thing as I should but we are to the point now of knocking down plug welds, blasting the door jambs and slinging some mud soon.Still need to tweak a few things but for the most part the fit is decent. This is where Im at now.

Utech 200 single stage mixed with flattening blender is effortless to spray with no striping. It also works very well in reproducing semi gloss, eggshell etc sheens for restos and with all colors for house and garage doors.

Tri-stages require more coats + it can have more film build before you get the right color. The hardener will improve adhesion by crosslinking to the clear.Pretty sure it will also cut down on the chance of solvent pop with added film build.

I’m in canada pretty sure the products are different.I know we can’t get easy 1 filler here and a few other things.I have found with sikkens autowave if you spray directly over spray bomb primer the base will eat right into the primer, sadly you would have to seal it or not use it.

January 13, 2013 at 10:28 pm #40339

The spray bomb etch and filler primers aren’t all that great and a anti static wipe or wax and grease remover will soften them. The upol 20:25 4:1 2k urethane primer works very well we have been using it for over 6 years with no issues what so ever.
Upol flyweight gold filler and dolphin glaze are also very good products.

If that works for you keep doing it.I only increase my distance a few inches for the last coat depending on the gun and brand of materials. If you go too far your last coat will go on way too dry and cause adhesion issues and it will feel like tacking off a strip of 40 grit.Your base coat should feel silky smooth with barely any residue on your tack rag.

When I used deltron I had better luck using 885 reducer for every job big or small and flash time was the same. When I use solvent a slower reducer improves sprayability and run your booth at 70-75 if you can.I also had better luck using 65-75% overlap and increasing my distance slightly on my last coat to even out the metallics.
I just picked up a Tekna that my jobber had on special. $325.
1.2,1.3,1.4 needles and a digital regulator.
Looking forward to trying it out today..

I have been spraying with a Devilbiss GTI. GTI’s are pretty reasonable.
How did the tekna work out for you ?They are very impressive guns for a very reasonable price.

What we have found is a real lambs wool pad from farecla with G4(specifically for hard clears like superior 250)works very well.
