I know this may be an over asked question, or going on argument about which gun is best. But I mean how good is SATA? More importantly the 4000, its been on running thru my head that maybe I want to save up and get a 4000 RP. I like having the best equipment. I have two Tekna’s and love them. I know that the gun doesn’t make the painter but people swear by SATA and some people swear by others. My instructor swears by Devilbiss, as he bought a SATA NR 2000, didn’t like it so he used it as his primer gun. I just want different points of views from painters who have gone thru many guns. Thanks.

I also ask this because Autobody Tool mart has the SATA RP for close to $700, where the non digital 4000 is around $609
It really depends where you ask,one place will tell you to get a plus gun :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
Seriously though I am a sata guy due to the fact I can use it up to 10 times a day and take it apart after each use and it will perform flawlessly.Satas are tough as hell and can take a beating, try doing that with a plus. The few people that bitch about sata are the cheap pricks who don’t want to buck up to get a good gun.It doesn’t matter what you buy the top shelf guns are very close in price now.I have used Devilbiss, sharpe, ecco, optima, sata and prefer satas for clear, nothing better than an RP.Just my 2 cents 😉 Ding gave good advice when you start at a shop and all you are going to do is paint then get a sata, for now the teknas are a great gun,I have 2 of them that I use for waterborne. My favorite out the rp’s is the first gen,the 4000 is a little slow, the 3000 is the fastest.

Thats not a bad price but for $15 more you can have the silver supreme that is made in the states 😉 It all depends on your expectations but that is a good option.

That is a good question, I thought it used to be figured by dividing your door rate in half per hr for paint materials, could be wrong tho,I’m out of touch with estimating.

Well you might want to look at technique also, maybe they are just panel painting with to much overlap resulting in runs.Much easier to walk the sides or do at least a couple of panels.I will paint the roof, trunk, door quarter, door quarter, then the frontend. That is for a downdraft,a crossflow is slightly different.

Personally I would dump the keystone clear and look into using lesonal universal clear(very affordable),it might be easier for you.How experienced is your painter?

Does you booth have enough airflow?eg when was the last time the exhaust fan and stack was cleaned out, filters changed often?Sometimes with cheap clears they dry to fast and you have to really lay it on to stay wet, this could be leading up to 2 much film build resulting in runs.Maybe try a better clear, most of the keystone stuff is not desirable.
