I never had a jga with a 1.4,but I did have a devilbiss GFG with a 1.4 and a 9000 air cap,it was just as good as my jet90… :clappy The old ecco 40 with a 1.5 was a damn good gun too, when sikkens came to our neck of the woods in 85 that was the go to gun 😉
October 17, 2011 at 8:48 am #33595No it only needs a max pressure of 32 psi now, they changed the nozzle setup and it is pretty quiet.Honestly I don’t mind the 4000,don’t find it finicky either, just a little slow and hot weather can be a pain even with a 1.4.My biggest complaint is it doesn’t put out enough material, but if you don’t mind a slower gun it is fine.I am not a big fan of the 3000 either,I keep going back to my first gen rp with a 1.4,the other 2 sit in my toolbox.
October 17, 2011 at 4:29 am #33591I have seen some trailer queen paintjobs that were done back in the early 90’s with autobase and autoclear…they still looked great but they are pampered.Do you remember the old ecco syphon sprayguns? We still have a couple at the shop with blending solvent in them.It would be fun to spray some of the old clears and see what they look like compared to superior.Kinda scary to look back at those days and realize how long I have been doing this :wak 😛
October 17, 2011 at 4:17 am #33589How about XT hardener,autocryl,3+1,autoclear….ah the good old days

October 16, 2011 at 9:41 pm #33568Definately not enough paint to do a car of that size inside and out. That would be close to just do the outside depending on coverage.
October 16, 2011 at 5:36 am #33563I don’t prime, thats what it looks like sometimes when it comes in the booth and they are “ready for paint” :rofl All I do now is mask and paint 😉
October 16, 2011 at 4:57 am #33560Good info everyone. If you can still get it old lacquer primer works great.put about an inch of primer in the old syphon feed gun pot, fill it with gunwash, mix it up and hang it on the bench, mine is always ready to go.I don’t care how good you are you should use it,not just for blocking but for finding pinholes and other imperfections.I have used it for 25 years, doesn’t matter if it is a 4 inch primer spot or a whole car.Its also nice if you change grits you must use it to get all the sanding scratches out.I have to fix stuff everyday before I paint it from bodymen that don’t use it and it looks like they sanded with a garden rake 😡
October 15, 2011 at 4:49 am #33523

When was the last time your exhaust fan and stack were cleaned out? That could be all that you need to get some more airflow along with fresh filters. The universal is a pretty good clear(I swear it is re-packaged ACII) it can be used for small jobs or allovers, thicker than proair and nicer to spray.I don’t know it you can use ACIII hardener and activators with it but I suppose it is possible.
pretty much is. If ever in a pinch on hardener and activator, you CAN use the ACIII standard hardener and activator. I think it buffs a little easier than the ACIII though.
Of all the AKZO clears, I beleive the Lesonal Universal is their best. Cost and performance.
I disagree, not even close to their best clear, Universal is a decent crash clear and it is relabeled ACII,but it is a little skinny after it dries.I would rank it #4 after Superior 250,Lesonal Glamor Clear,HS +.I have sprayed just about every major clear there is including SPI and nothing comes close to superior in regards to DOI and gloss retention.
I can’t even remember the last time we used standrad hardener,we always used XP hardener in ACIII.October 10, 2011 at 6:03 am #33476The new 4000 rp has a new limit of 2.2 bar or 32psi.http://www.sata.com/index.php?id=satajet4000brp&L=12(click on technical details) 7-9 inches away?Never heard or read that cant imagine spraying that far away and how long it would take
October 10, 2011 at 5:41 am #33473I disagree,if you apply 2-3 coats let it sit for a day or 2 you will get rid of solvents and possible shrinkage. When you sand it flat that cuts out texture and gives you a smoother substrate for flow coating,so yes its different.I understand all about custom painting an how much material you can have, but you will cut down on problems with 2 clear coat applications.A video of someone endorsing his own custom painting techniques and product means nothing, lets see what the car looks like in person and after a couple of years.I have seen many a “showcar paintjob”that looks like butt due to too much material, sand scratch swelling, swirls etc.
October 10, 2011 at 5:18 am #33471Well sure I can see that, but not 5 coats of clear all at once :rofl
October 9, 2011 at 11:27 pm #33462A 1.4 in an iwata is like a 1.3 or 1.2 in a sata, not a real issue.Try some Lesonal accelerator in your clear, this will help it tack up faster, also make sure your first coat is hand slick before you apply your second. You can also turn your fluid control in a bit,but speed and distance will do the same thing.
