Doc has a pretty good procedure for doing bodywork, everyone also has there own way of doing things to get the result they want.I treat restos a little different than a collision job.I always strip to bare metal so there are no paint edges to deal with.Using a machine to rough in your mud work is fine as long as you finish by hand with a block.I usually prime a resto twice so I’m not concerned with finishing my mudwork to 180 for the first prime.I will finish filler to 100grit,the finer you go the more wavy it gets,so use sharp paper and cut it flat. When you are applying primer put on a good 3-4 coats and it won’t hurt to let it dry for a couple of days, primer can shrink on you.For my first round of blocking I will start with 150-180 with the longest board I can by hand,no machine.Using a guide coat is a good idea but you also need to use your hand to check things. When it is ready for more primer I will apply 2-3 more coats, let it dry a few more days then wet sand with 400 if I’m going to seal or 600 if no sealer.Post some pics of the chevelle, they are my favorite musclecar HTH :cheers

I think you answered your own question :cheer: I bet that the solvents from the raptor softened the undercoating and made it lift.We have done dozens of boxliners using the upol raptor kits plus my personal truck with no issues.

Welcome to the site, this is a great place to come and exchange info, learn, and have a little fun. There are many people here in the industry with a great deal of knowledge.I have been painting in a shop since the late 80’s,and using sikkens autowave since april of 2009.What paint brand are you using? Not all waterbornes are the same and application is different as well, let us know what your questions are. Also talk to your rep/traveling salesman about certification, most times the paint company will pay,it is in there best interest so you will be using there products the way they were meant to be.The sikkens 2 day application course was a big help for our shop,so talk your boss into it,it will make the shop more profitable and save him costly mistakes.Good luck :cheers

Never sprayed a complete before  Wow dude you are in for a learning experience if you have never sprayed a complete before, much different than small jobs.Tell your manager to show you how to spray a complete with fast and medium when it is 30C and above :rofl Good luck with the new job.

:agree It is half the work to just change the roof from a donor car and you will end up with a better job.Getting experience is one thing but you are coming close to beating a dead horse :deadhorse

Look in your yellow pages for a bodyshop supply store that sells to shops, most of them will also sell aftermarket parts.Check the yellow pages again for a auto recycler(wrecking yard :lol1 ) in your area, most of them are in contact with each other and they can get you what you need. Not very many aftermarket roofs are available unless you are restoring a muscle car,new OEM or used is your only choice.

I don’t understand your question, are you asking about an adhesion promoter for use on raw plastic or painitng a rubber steering wheel? There are a few choices.

The best and easiest would have been to remove the headliner first,as long as you could gain access, and there was no double panel.Sometimes the long way is the quick way :clappy

Looks damn nice Lild :rock Hey how does that white 3m masking paper work with waterborne? When I used it a couple of years ago it would slightly bleed through.Have you tried the new american mid grade blue masking tape?

There must be something special about this color?I could not find it in the computer nor my suppliers,I also checked the last 10 years worth of my yearly color books in the lambo section. The closest i found was 0046 or 0048 but no 0047 :compsmash Maybe this color does not exist?
