Sorry you had troubles, that can be very frustrating.Like Ryan has suggested an lph is just not that great of a gun for high solids materials, also 16 psi at the gun is to low, many people have said that gun works better with more air pressure like 25-30psi.Unfortunately it sounds like the temp and your gun gave you the most trouble.A sata 3000rp with a 1.4 is a pretty fast gun but it does an excellent job with single stage urethane.I agree with ryan you might be better off converting that gun to the compliant w-400 😉
April 15, 2011 at 3:20 am #30314Jim you must be talking about autoclean, antistatic is a solvent based cleaner and it is very hot.You can wipe some bumper primers off with it and some spray bomb primers too.I do not use antistatic anymore,I will use DX103 or a 1:1 mix of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water on bumper covers.M600 or utech W&G remover(789 surface cleaner?) on steel panels.
April 9, 2011 at 8:33 pm #30254You guys have better luck than me,I have only seen a junkyard part the same color that I need once in my 24year career 😛
April 9, 2011 at 8:27 pm #30253Just make sure you get some accelerator for the 3.5,it can be a little slow to dry.Make sure you have some heat in your shop, put your first coat on medium wet and wait for it to be dry to the touch before you apply your second or else it will be on the floor 😛 If you have any questions just ask 😉
April 6, 2011 at 7:58 am #30157We have used u-tech for the last 12 years and it is tough as nails, use it on semis and cars.It is a polyurethane, about as durable as you can get.Buy some and do a scrap fender and see what you think,I’m sure you will like it,and it is a breeze to spray.
April 6, 2011 at 7:41 am #30155Yes single stage urethane, think of it as clear with pigment 😉 Go talk to the boys at offshore,u-tech 3.5 is your friend.
April 6, 2011 at 3:51 am #30143Yes you can paint a hood or a fender in a garage as long as you have some type of air movement(box fan etc)
Canuck why don’t you look at the possibility of getting single stage for your repair? It would work great on a solid color.April 4, 2011 at 4:13 am #30079Nice pics lild, thanks for posting.Another nice white pearl is on the new ford trucks(UL?)Nice work bud 😉
