Looks real nice Dinger, nice clean work,so what did you think of the envirobase? How is that Yellow norton tape working for you :p
February 1, 2011 at 6:37 am #27944It makes sense now Jim,we are talking about two different clears.I think you are talking about autoclear lv exclusive, and we are talking about Superior 250,two different animals and superior won’t be going away anytime soon. :stoned
February 1, 2011 at 6:03 am #27932Superior 250 is mixed 3:2:1…….no wonder it stayed soft.Your rep is doing everything different than what they do up here.
February 1, 2011 at 5:58 am #27928It says right on the can for use on WATERBORNE ONLY.Everyone I have ever talked to from akzo says no,including all the guys at the training center here .
So you are saying that the Euro clear is the same as 250?Isn’t that the cheap clear that was designed for cheaper work,I’m sure that’s what was said on your forum at one time. You must have had a bad batch or mixed it wrong, superior is hard as a rock the next day whether it was baked or air dry,it will not mark,so to soft to polish is not right.I know another sikkens painter who has used euro clear and superior and his opinion was different than yours.I tried a half gallon of the universal clear and I wasn’t a fan,it was to fast for my booth, and trust me I know how to get around a car fast enough to keep it wet,but this stuff was fast even with a 1.4 3000rp wide open. For us up here in canuckville it is well over $200 for a universal kit, takes 3 days to get it and they tell you it is the best ever….but they won’t let you try it.I know I can be a Dik sometimes but I know I’m not the only painter that Barry has rubbed the wrong way………..January 31, 2011 at 8:24 am #27874Kool pix Lild, looks like ya have fun at your shop.Sometimes fridays can be a pain :p
January 31, 2011 at 7:42 am #27872

now according to my neighbor who is the sikkens rep around here, many of the lesonal clear are just relabeled sikkens. he said the cans go down the production line split in half, one side gets a lesonal label one side gets the sikkens. i’m sure this doesn’t apply to every clear but probably some. wouldn’t be the only paint company out there to do something like that. i have used the lesonal universal clear which was really good and my neighbor recently dropped off a couple gallons of the superior 250 for me to try. that is an extremely nice clear as well for those shops that can just spray and send it on its way. i tried buffing it and forget it. i would have better luck buffing the shop floor. with all that said though, the spi clears look just as good and buff like butter at 1/4 the cost.
Superior 250 is not bad to polish if you start right away and use a polish for scratch resistant clears,3m has one and so does farecla.
Your SPI claim is bogus it is not 1/4 of the cost ,not for me up here anyway.I have tried it and it’s ok but it is not like a high end clear….sorry
I am amazed by your work….down right impressive but spare us the SPI plug
Tell us how you really feel Jay :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
Jayson is always quite reserved on his feelings…
And you talk to much Benny :roflJanuary 31, 2011 at 5:28 am #27852
now according to my neighbor who is the sikkens rep around here, many of the lesonal clear are just relabeled sikkens. he said the cans go down the production line split in half, one side gets a lesonal label one side gets the sikkens. i’m sure this doesn’t apply to every clear but probably some. wouldn’t be the only paint company out there to do something like that. i have used the lesonal universal clear which was really good and my neighbor recently dropped off a couple gallons of the superior 250 for me to try. that is an extremely nice clear as well for those shops that can just spray and send it on its way. i tried buffing it and forget it. i would have better luck buffing the shop floor. with all that said though, the spi clears look just as good and buff like butter at 1/4 the cost.
As for the stripes, yes I think that is the best way to do it,sand and re-clear,looks like this when done.

January 30, 2011 at 9:00 pm #27843Thanks for the kind words…but this job is what it is 😡
No Lild no opening on the handles, just spray it like it’s not there and then come back give it a quick shot on the top then bottom, seems to work.Ryan that is the 3m yellow tape,it is awesome, similar to the green but itis not as thick and seems easier to corner and tear,I really like it.Nortons yellow tape is awful, takes longer to unmask with it,it comes off in splinters.I guess norton yellow tape is now a mid grade called performance and there tan tape is the premium…..don’t use the yellow it will kick you in the….. :deadhorse
My suppliers warehouse had 36 cases of the 3m tape and they were blowing it out at $90 bucks a case so we bought 4 cases. The inch and a half tape is 3m 2727 highland,it is pretty good, easy to tear and when you pull it off the roll it doesn’t convert itself down to quarter inch tape 👿January 30, 2011 at 6:31 am #27814If ya notice there Bob he uses compliant guns not the ultra slow LPH-400 :p
January 30, 2011 at 5:41 am #27808All I did was spray it painter  …
So this one is for you :clappy
January 30, 2011 at 1:20 am #27799Have you ever heard of the ez-edger? I have tried the transition tape and it was ok but the easy edger just uses regular ol masking tape, pretty handy.http://www.ezedger.com/
The more I hear about debeer paint I really want to try it how are the color matches? Is it a user friendly system??I use sikkens autowave and superior 250 clear and it works for us.
I don’t think we have that upol filler here, all we can get in Canada is flyweight gold, and fantastic, dolphin glaze, liquid gold putty, all very nice IMO.Does the easy one filler sand real nice??
Do you just walk in and spray and have helpers to mix paint, prep, mask, blow and tack?Just curious how you guys do it at such a big scale. Thanks
January 29, 2011 at 9:16 pm #27794Those are very impessive numbers,I’m having a busy week if I do 30 :p What kind of paint do you use over there?? Do you use upol products?
