Timbo is right, bubbles in the cup mean an air leak.Check your fluid tip and make sure it is tight,or could be a gasket if equipped.
November 12, 2010 at 8:01 pm #25122The price we pay is the same as buying direct,we have checked and our jobber kisses our butt so to speak.I have used all of the major systems in my 25 years and I can honestly say I do not like basf, and price is not the issue. Our shop is 18,000sqft,16 bodymen,2 painters. We do collision repairs, large rottiserie restorations, collision repairs and refinishing of semis and eveything in between. If you can buy stuff cheaper good for you ,it ticks me off that our dollar is the same most of the time but we still pay more on some things and less on others.
November 11, 2010 at 11:23 pm #25111As far as what we pay I will not tell you on the net,but I will tell you that the shop I work at has been sikkens since 1987 and we use $20,000 in paint a month…just paint that doesn’t include parts or other materials. So with that in mind and the history we get 30% off sometimes more.In my area dupont and BASF are the most expensive, and sikkens is up there as well but with our discount is cheaper than all the other brands. There is a huge basf distributor here in my province that is western canada wide and they really tried to get us to switch a few years ago and offered us all kinds of incentives and cash, but they could not offer us as good of a deal.
November 11, 2010 at 10:12 am #25107Wow I never had any issues with the global system,I liked the deltron system better but it worked fine for me.I would use ppg way before basf, that stuff is way overpriced for what ya get IMO.I think you will be fine for what ya spent. You can use omni primers to keep the cost down too.
November 8, 2010 at 5:30 am #25048It’s pretty easy to tell when it is ready for clear,it looks and feels dry,and it has a nice matt appearence waiting 15 mins @70f minimum before clear. With solvent it dries from the outside in,water dries from the inside out, when it is dry it’s dry.If for some reason you clear to soon it will blush. If you have ever used it you would understand it is a non issue, lots of BS concerning waterborne and how bad it is,usually from people who have never used it and from guys who don’t like change. As far as your beliefs that TDS are bullshit…..You do custom big dollar paint jobs, but I bet they are garaged and well taken care off and don’t spend anytime out in the elements.Put one of those jobs outside for a few years up here in Canada where our temps can range from -40F to + 100F and lets see how long it takes for something to happen.
November 8, 2010 at 5:23 am #25046Man are we gonna have to relive the old enamel hot spraying days 😉 sounds interesting :kofee maybe it would work for someone with no booth.
November 7, 2010 at 2:59 am #25017Yes for the guys that think water is crap there are no dieback issues and after 15mins you can hammer on your clear and walk away and not worry about the old problems.
November 7, 2010 at 2:37 am #25013Although I don’t agree with waiting as long as you do Jim you are absolutely correct. If you think about production painting sometimes you have to use sealer, a wet bed for your blend panel,3 coats of base, then bang on 2 coats of clear. That is alot of trapped solvent that can either cause dieback, delamination or solvent pop. When I used solvent base I would use slow reducer on everything. In our downdraft booths we have lots of airflow and it would flash off the same as fast reducer.Fast reducer in basecoat can cause your base to skin over slightly and cause some problems.I would let my sealer flash minimum 20-30mins,base 30mins,before clear. On a complete I would wait minimum an hour before clear. If you are turning off your booth I can see having to wait overnight or 4hrs,but if you have airflow and heat while the booth is running that is unessesary to wait that long.We also do show cars at my shop, not just a splash and dash crash shop. There is always something else to do out in the shop while you are waiting for a coat of whatever to flash in the booth, masking, prepping etc.
November 6, 2010 at 10:53 pm #25009Phone carlson in Calgary, they might have some, they are province wide.

November 5, 2010 at 5:17 am #24945How long do you let your sealer flash, how long do you let your base flash before clearing? Are you baking? Are you using accelerator? These things can cause dieback.
November 5, 2010 at 5:01 am #24943Are you for real stone??That is the biggest load of crap I have heard :rofl Maybe that’s how your system is but that is just not true. Why would you use a crappy clear and then spend hrs buffing it to look nice, that makes no sense but to each his own :stoned
October 25, 2010 at 5:19 am #24638Why don’t you go listen to dueling banjos ya backwards azz country fuk :stoned
