April 15, 2010 at 4:50 am #20694one other thing is candy pink is not lightfast. its fades very easily and is only meant for show cars. says it right in the tech manual. i totally agree with ryan on this. i have mixed hok and rm diamont together many times but they are very similar in makeup. dupont is different and requires a reactive reducer. i wouldn’t do it.
April 14, 2010 at 4:08 am #20653i believe that stuff is relabeled omni. i have never shot it but its my understnding that omni is one of the enamel type bases which any clear should easily bite into. that stuff is usually much slower than the premium polyester bases.
April 13, 2010 at 5:37 am #20633most basecoat recoat windows are waaaay over rated. if it sat even for a week i would not think twice about just clearing it. if you are worried about it just use slow activator in your clear and add maybe 10% slow reducer so it stays wet on the base longer and bites in a little more. that clear will have no problem biting into a base. i have never in my life had a chipping problem on anything and my stuff sits around in base sometimes for weeks while we are doing artwork. if you are using waterborne then that may be a different story since i have never used that stuff but regular solvent base should be no problem at all especially if we are only talking a few days.
April 6, 2010 at 3:57 pm #20544jimmo, just wanted you to know the past couple days that login thing has been happening again. same as before.
April 3, 2010 at 2:42 pm #20522$500 a month is nuts. i’m not quite in the same boat as a body shop since i dont have a washer. i hand wash everything but i do collect all the solvents from it in a 55gal drum. we spray everyday day here and change colors probably a dozen times a day or more and it will take me 3 years to fill the drum and cost me $550 for pickup and disposal.
about the autowave shelf life, are you guys giving potlife times once mixed and ready to spray or actual shelf life of the base before mixing?
March 31, 2010 at 3:03 pm #20468a booth wouldn’t have to be store bought it just needs to meet the guidlines listed in that ruling link….pg2 top right corner. how the booth is made would be more of a local govt. thing. if they let you spray in it then no problem. if your kinda painting under the radar so to speak i would not worry about any of it but i would go get my cert and make sure all the rules are atleast followed except registering the shop.
March 31, 2010 at 2:15 am #20455here is a link to the epa’s final rule on it. you gotta get your cert, you have to register your shop, your spray equiptment has to be hvlp and you have to keep on file proof that your exhaust filters are 98% efficient or better. if your not spraying in a booth then you are limited to a 3oz. cup

March 25, 2010 at 6:28 am #20353i have 2 of those in my shop. they feel the need to leave their little primer dust covered paws on eeeeverything!
March 23, 2010 at 3:34 pm #20297dont have a problem with the speed but the past few days i have to log in everytime to gain access. i type my name and password, it takes me to a blank white page that says “invalid token” in the upper lefthand corner. i press the back button to go back to the homepage and i am logged in as usual
Several years ago I purchased a Craftsman 30 gal compressor (single piston) and it was one of the worst tools I’ve every had – made a lot of noise, did compress some air, could just barely keep up with a paint gun. I gave it to a buddy that uses it to power his air nailers. Last summer I bit the bullet and bought a 2-stage 5 hp Quincy (made in the USA) with a 60 gal tank. I plumbed my garage with 3/4 copper and have dryers and air drops everywhere I need them. I’ve run 2 DA’s at the same time with this compressor and never missed a beat. Go big the first time and save money.
extremely good advise!!
you’ll never say….crap, i wish i had less air.
March 21, 2010 at 3:43 pm #20255that will work but if it were me i’d go for the 5hp eaton. its the same price as the ingersoll. i have a 7.5hp eaton as well as a 7.5 hp ingersoll and i can tell you the eaton is built twice as solid plus you get alot more for your money. read the spec sheet on the eaton. it tells you what all it comes with. ingersoll wont come with anything. eatons are under rated in their cfm as well while ingersoll is usually slightly overrated.
March 21, 2010 at 5:36 am #20251ryan, makes no difference what the tank size is. that just affects how often it needs to turn on and off when iar is used in intervals. when spraying you will need 15-19 cfm of constant airflow depending on your gun. a $500 compressor ain’t gonna give you that unless you pick up something used.
