I just did this color (in ppg) i had the same problem, sprayed 4 cards, 2 bariants of the solvent, & 2 variants of the enviro, neither were a close match not even blendable. I then found a tri coat in our “chose” type of paint options, met or tri.. Which when i looked it up at first it only listed as a 2 coat. Apperantly this is a problem across the brands. Except sikkens :clappy
February 19, 2013 at 7:36 am #41494any i’ve seen the same videos. thought it was cool when they did it. gives a nice semi flat color look.
the last i heard of the stuff is on the bimmer forum, when the guys there wanted to paint the chrome trim, so they could have a fake me out sport version.February 18, 2013 at 3:48 am #41457that’s the problem with one visit clears, and with wb base they can be picky. try useing a slower hardner, or skip the bake cycle.
January 26, 2013 at 7:00 am #40628& we have a hard time keeping dirt out of our shit, when its in the both. Great work man.
January 16, 2013 at 5:39 am #40395After looking it upnthe said matter, it appears ding is correct. Of corse it wasnt in the big or in a side note under of dx57 option part, no its in real small fine print, had tomzoom in 200x to see.c  & i see it was rquired in tri coats. Go figure, 12+ yrs of painting & no one has ever told me, not the rep, jobber, or the training center. So i just got skool’d by the dinger,
:blush:But i was talking about enviro, which has no activator.

I will tell u that the tri’s that use the prlx pearls will take 4 coats of mid.
Why don’t you use BC activator in PPG tricoats?
Because its not required its an option. Plus your puting base coat on top of base coat, the mid uses the same binder as the ground coat. I never had a problem with the tri coats. But now i said that…….. 😆
Tech sheet says required on all tricoats (in the ground and mid coat.) 😛
Its required due to the increased film build. makes it a stronger more stable due to it being crosslinked as opposed to a thick layer of uncatylised paint ;)
i’ll have
E to look thAt up on the computer. On the lil instruction line it gives a pg # to look up on reduceing, never mentions using a dx57. Just to reduce it 1:1January 15, 2013 at 8:07 am #40389

We don’t use 9700 black any more, & I don’t add any thing in the tri coats other then reducer.

January 14, 2013 at 4:47 am #40360Dings right. 1:1 I don’t use any additives, unless its fish eye eliminator. 🙂
January 14, 2013 at 4:11 am #40357I agree with jay, over lap about 70% try turning the heat down a lil. If u have mainly a lot of large jobs, leave the heat up & bump up the reducer to dt895. U could always do a half & half of 85 & 95. You’ll need to play with it some, you could also do the same with 70/85. Booths move air differently, so it’s gonna come down to fine tuning every thing by playing around.
