Fortunately, they make lots of rust repair panels for this truck. i guess the only way to have minimal downtime is to get all your parts, materials, tools, etc together and then i could see myself completing that entire truck in 10 days of serious non stop work.
what clear did u spray? thats kind of a draw back of wet sanding because its easy for the paper to carry dirt and cause deep scratches. as suggested u mite wanna try using 3000 grit on a da to refine the scratches up a bit and start over. maybe switch to a compound that works better on a HS clear if thats what u sprayed.
Laugh if you want to but I don’t use tack rags anymore.
And hardly ever use wax and grease remover.
Before I start, and when I’m done with my final sanding, I wash everything
with Dawn dish soap, never had fisheyes after doing that.
Once dry, I never blow it off with air, that just causes static,
which will make dirt stick to it.
I tack off with Endust useing clean dedicated shop rags that I wash and
keep just for that. Laugh if you want but it works better for me
and the Endust removes the static which keeps it cleaner.
Been doing it that way for over 10 yrs now, never a problem.
You all can keep those nasty sticky tack rags.
 what about between coats?
i was going to teach auto body at a vo-tech school in nyc and during the interview they emphasized the point that my job description was to only teach safety, theory, tools, and process. basically, the role of the school was introduce people into the field and then assist them in finding entry level positions in a shop.
i think all your son needs at this point is to be given repair jobs that challenge him.
