best way i found to save money in the paint or body department is to combine jobs. for example, if possible, i like to prime at least 2-3 jobs at once saving me time and material, or clear a bunch of jobs at once and let them dry together. if theres lots of plastic work going on, then i can mud jobs up at the same time and have no waste.
in the shop overhead area, i have my shop lighting zoned where if nothing is going on in a particular area the lights can be cut off. i switched to prevost fittings on my air lines and my compressor doesnt work as much anymore.
before a car goes into paint it gets washed regardless of how small the repair area is and this really produces a cleaner job and cuts back or eliminates polishing. and when we wash we use a pressure washer and that really saves water.
i got hooked on plastic sheeting a while ago and pretty much use it for a collision job or overall repaint. in the end its faster and less space in the dumpster. it takes me less tape and it gives me cleaner work. i prefer the sherwin shield brand or 3m plastic sheeting over the norton or usc shark skin.
I rarely use 2021. Only on the show cars. For everyday collision work its typically the DC 2000 speed clear and once in a while 2042. We typically do 9 full frame off nut and bolt restos a year.
I have ran 15 psi on the last couple and it works well because I get less nibs, but definately easier to sag on the bumper covers that way.
15 psi? wash the cars better and get an rp
Hey looks great, what was it like for coverage, do you tint your primer or wet on wet to help, is that your booth in the pics, Do you let them air dry or bake them in a booth set up, I have noticed that alot of people use homemade or garages that which the spray in, which that in mind do many of you guys do insurance work with this set up etc
thanks rikka, yea, air dry no heat  the homemade booth works, but it needs lots of improvements or simply replacement lol. we do insurance work but not as much as we do fleet repairs/refinishing
Very nice, hows the u-tech for coverage? are you sealing/priming them white first?
thanks smooth, u tech has excellent coverage and holds up extremely well. i always seal no matter what the existing paint condition is for a taxi to save paint and make color uniform throughout. i dont use white sealer tho because it throws the color off and makes it appear brighter when i need it a tad redder so i mix my sealer pink.
