I think it comes down to me being the 2nd painter and being the youngest in the team of four. So I get over ruled most of the time. I tend to get most of the work people don’t want to do on both side of panel and paint. I don’t really mind as that’s the best time that I shine and pull out some great results 🙂 . I do get a great pay for my 40 hour week of insurance work most of the work that’s on here of mine is spare ;). I try my best to do what I can with what I’ve got on both paint and panel, over the years I’m the only one out of the four that can do both which is great . I found out bout my glasses as I’m the one who flats, denies and polish plus waxes the paint jobs. I take my hat of to you jm as I’ve done work like that and it can be a pain in the ass ha ha
December 4, 2012 at 12:33 pm #39652Thanks mate, I enjoy doing them as its a challenge 🙂 I’ve still got the rest of the bike to do and build it with new parts etc, so ill put more as I build. I’m happy how its coming out but I can truly say I’m getting bit bored of all the rockstar themes I’ve been doing ha ha, how you getting on jm

December 1, 2012 at 3:57 am #39534
Have you tried activating your base? And also using a less aggressive masking tape. We use the 3m yellow tape, for waterborne, because it has a less aggressive stick than the green.

Cheers 🙂December 1, 2012 at 2:29 am #39525Hey mate for rm diamont paint I know you can leave the base only up to 16 hours before clear. Longer then that and you have to resend or scotch the base. So if you based the bumper just before 5 pm you’ve only got till 9am to reapply a base coat.
So I’m thinkin you left the base to long having to apply to different bases. With the second base goin on the tape would maybe help for the base to pull off. When I’ve bases a motor bike frame and put stencils and left it over nite it pulled the base off as wellDecember 1, 2012 at 1:06 am #39523Oh yeh what the hell is kitty hair please tell me it’s fibre glass or something ha ha
December 1, 2012 at 12:52 am #39520
Well what the hell am I supossed to do when they bring this crap to my shop with a 1000$ deductible and no money? I can either save the quarter and take the check, or let them WALK. There was a big dual A/C evaporatoer in behind the panel too. :S
Know guys put me straight if I’m wrong but from this picture if you take of the bumper and rear light and carefully drill out the spot welds you can take the triangle panel which the light bolts to giving you loads of room to put bars, dollies and flap most of the dent and if needs be heat shrink if needs be or put sound pads in then reweld or spot the panel back in hidden by the light and rubbers, and but as little filler in as you ca. 🙂
December 1, 2012 at 12:40 am #39519Loving the work mate, it looks a great result. Can I just ask why the wing and door was left and you didn’t whip a coat round the whole car. Or was it insurance and they didn’t allow it. I know it’s a little bit more work but I think it makes more sense to re base it all the trying to blow and blend every where 🙂
