If your doing half a bumper and the are has been repaired and primed, the your flatted the primer and scotched the half of the bumper. And you want to loose your clear coat say round the number plate area. Use a course compound ie ferecala g6. Once the bumper is masked and ready to paint and use layers down your base sealer to help blend the colour , once you’ve layer down a medium wet coat over the base but staying away from the number plate area. Next coat cover move ang get choose to where you want to blend the clear. Then tip you clear coat out the gun but leave a drop full in the gun the add the fade out blend in the gun turn the pressure down and lightly blow over the edge of the last coat to help blend in. Then bake leave and a hour or so and polish by hand. If you buff you can cut the thin blend mix back to far and it will be able to see it 🙂
November 29, 2012 at 12:36 am #39442Hey mate, I don’t really understand what you mean but is it something to do with eg you want to blow in a corner of a bumper and not paint the whole bumper , to loose your clear coat edge

November 28, 2012 at 3:06 am #39429
Hey Rikka, nice work.
What process are you using to paint new panels. I notice you have a new door hanging in the e-coat, then the next picture its painted. Are you painting them wet on wet primer, base then clear?
Hey mate thank you, the new door is etched, then a ultra sealer coat (wet on wet) then two three coats, also the blow aways aswel it had three coats due to the fine pearl in the base and wasn’t happy on how it was laying, the blow away panels have a base fix sealer sprayed on then as well to help
November 24, 2012 at 12:24 am #39382I know this my sound funny but don’t take it the wrong way, the gun I got was £250 in English pound, and with the pound so I think it works out round $500 in the USA, when I’ve got an account they do give you trade and discount . What set up you looking to get. And also what gun and set up you got for clear 🙂
November 24, 2012 at 12:18 am #39379Thanks for that 🙂 but 9 times out of 10 the door is hanging by the back as the car will be in the middle over the grate 😉 I’m used to it lol, I don’t like the idea of a coat hanger, I don’t think it will have the strength to hold a full door with inners in, cheers

November 23, 2012 at 12:25 am #39363Hey jimmo can I just ask…..
Does your work pay for your training and how often do you renew skills. As I’ve been painting for nearly 11 years and never seen a rep. I had to train in e herring, welding and fab before I even got a apprentiship in painting. Once I got in the trade off my own back I studied, panel, valeting and for next year detailing with auto glum course first. I only got taught how to hold a primer gun as the other painter left and the new didn’t want to teach me at all. So over the years I’ve learnt by doing many mistakesNovember 22, 2012 at 10:13 pm #39360😆 I’d love to take my girlfriend to Disney as she’s always wanted to go. Yeh I bet you’ll beat me on c.o.d as I don’t have a controller well I say I don’t have one lol it’s just in bout 10 pieces ha ha.

November 19, 2012 at 2:43 am #39324Hey, I have four clear guns, a Sata rp, a Sata hvlp, and two gti pros. The best set up for me is my gti pro with a 1.3 and te20 for a fast flow. I use it daily and think it give a gd finish for the everyday car. Depending on what style you paint and what finish your looking for. Also I think it does help to look at your data tech sheets for the clears your using which will help on the set up ull need 🙂
