Give it 2-3 days.

I have used and like them. Very nice clear. I find UFC kinda useless, just stick with UC35.

I would use the HOK reducers.

flourescent or neon paints go over a white ground coat. I assume this is what he means by fluro.

If I am correct i would not want a flourescent paint on anything that sees much sun as they are all very lightfast. If I am wrong and it is just a blue what Joe said is correct.

I’ve probably got $900 in mine. I have a Sata Vision unit with carbon monoxide monitor and the wall mounted 3-stage filter unit. Some of it I bought new and the filter unit was bought used for a real good price and I rebuilt it. The filter unit alone new is 2k. The Devilbiss filter units work good also but for the price I got the Sata for I couldn’t pass it up.

The way I look at it even if it was 3k and I had to pony up the money myself, it is still way cheaper than a set of lungs or the money I would loose by not being able to work.

Everyone should wear full face airfed mask’s, or at the very least a half face airfed mask.

I have noticed that a lot of guys on your side of the pond still use charcoal respirator mask’s, personally i would never ask or expect anyone to paint a car wearing one of those .
Thats one thing I hate over here Nick. Hardly any shops supply fresh air. I spent the coin and bought my own, that way if I go, it comes with me. I used a charcoal mask for quite a few years and could kick myself in the ass for not getting fresh air sooner.

man I wish i had fresh air, the booth I use has no fresh air and gets pretty foggy when im clearing, the thing is a pure cancer box man. Ive also been feeling quite sick by the end of the day (headache, stomach discomfort) if I breathe in the smallest ammount of anything containing isocyantes it seems. The stuff never used to bother me, and now it seems I can barely work out a full day now.. even when wearing my respirator all day.
Dude, that’s some serious shit. You need to get checked by a doc for sensitivity.

You could change filters every hour and it won’t help. You need fresh air. Systems can be put together for not a lot of money.

Painting is not all that bad if you take the precautions.

I am not familiar with Onyx but if it were me I would rebase and blend as needed. I can see you having an issue with sanding it and just putting orientation coats on. I would treat it the same as if primer were underneath.
hmmmm interesting 😛

so while were on the subject …..

whats the diference in application from solvent to water …. how dose it blend ?

    thanks

    tommy
Water should blend easier. Application is really dependant on brand.
ryanbrown999,

Do you think one can pull off spraying a fender or maybe a hood with waterborne in a garage? (Sikkens)
Yup, and just as Jayson said you will need some air movement. Cheap box fans are your friend.

I feel bad for you PPG guys for having to spray PPG. :p

To be honest I could give a shit less what’s given to me for free and getting a $1 t-shirt. I only care about the color matches, quality of paint and having great support from my reps. I have had Dupont give me several paint guns, free paint and a couple d/a’s and it really didn’t matter. There rep was good too. All that didn’t keep them in the shop due to piss poor color match.

If I can’t make money due to the product I am going to lose more money than I will ever recover in free stuff.

Something else to think about, sales at all paint companies are way down. Most can’t give you free stuff as it has to be accounted for somewhere. Plus if you are hitting them up for free stuff so are 100 other painters. I’m sure it gets old real fast. How many of you would work for free at work on a weekly basis? I’m with Joe on this I can see the shop getting freebies because they actually spend the money. The painter doesn’t.

Water will work fine in a garage. I spray on the shop floor with a older prep station all the time. Works just fine. Buy a couple of cheap box fans to help dry.

Of the ones I have used I would want Sikkens or PPG if spraying in a garage. I can see Dupont/Spies/Standox being a bit trickier to pull off.
