blow off the car/part thouroughly before it goes in the booth. Wipe it down with a slovent cleaner and then a waterborne cleaner. Blow it off at low pressure. Tack. Mist a coat of PPG DX103 over the surface. Let flash for 5 minutes, retack and apply paint.

If your area has low humidity you probably have a static issue. waterborne cleaners that are alcohol based work well for killing static. If it is real dry misting a little water on the booth floor wont hurt either.

Gerson, Dupont, Sikkens and Crystal all make nice ones that should work fine. After you take one out of the package let it sit for a little bit if it is one of the real sticky ones.

If your using a good brand already your problem may be too much static on the vehicle or part or incorrect application of basecoat. There should be a very minimal amount of overspray to tack off if your spraying correctly. Sometimes on a tricky blend you might have more.

It sounds like Joe is right to me. Unless there were cut throughs on the blend panel, but as Ding said the mist coats would have sealed it off. Unless there was no flash time between all of the mist coats and the wet coat.

This is just another example of why waterborne kicks solvents ass. This would never happen with water.

To the op, there is no reason to ever mist coat your first coats of base. They should all be medium to medium wet with Dupont. Only your last coat should ever have a drop coat if needed. With Dupont it is rarely needed. To be honest I would find a new brand of base. Dupont has to be one of the worst of the majors basecoat, and I have sprayed all of them. The only one competing for the last spot with it is Sherwin.

Good job! Looks like your Teknas are treating you well!

Did you spray it in BC/CC or single stage?

Looks good Ding. I think you will fit in well with all the other Sikkens assholes around here. You already won half the battle, you just need Sikkens now! :rofl

Those handles are pretty tough to pull out.

I went to the one in Atlanta. Both instructors there were very good.

Where are you from, Indiana? I live in Louisville KY.

Other than only having one coat of clear at the edge of the blend panel there isn’t much you can do. Make sure your not getting your blend out too far and getting some overspray by the edge.

It looks worse under certain lights also. Some shop lights make it look worse than it is.

You could always do the customer a favor and add some black door edge guards for free with the repair!

So I take it that the RP is now approved for use in the U.S.? Did Sata supply a compliance certification with the gun?
No it’s not. It isn’t available for sale yet in the states
You really need to get your ass over here. We get all the best stuff :p :rofl
Where do you think my sata came from 😉 the digi gauge even reads in bar.

I think you would like the 4000 Andy. Maybe you can nag on your Debeer rep and get one to try. To be honest it probably sprays quite similar to the WS400. They both have the same style of pattern. I was a pretty die hard Iwata guy also Andy but I have to say I have been happier with my RP’s for clear. The LS base gun over here does handle waterborne base very well. I am still trying to get a WS400 to demo for clear.
