So I take it that the RP is now approved for use in the U.S.? Did Sata supply a compliance certification with the gun?
No it’s not. It isn’t available for sale yet in the states

Between Dupont and Spies Hecker there is no way I would use anything dupont. Spies makes a very nice product, a little different to use but nice. they don’t have an epoxy if you were wanting to use one but everything else would be fine. Depending on your gun setup i would use 8035 clear.

There clears seem to do better with smaller fluid tips. I had the best results with a Sata RP 1.2 and the Iwata W-400 1.3.

For basecoat it will cover was faster than Dupont, and shouldn’t cost much more.

What color are you spraying, what guns do you have, what kind of setup do you have to paint in? All these things make a difference, give us a little feedback and we can try and help more.
What tip size? Whats the speed like compared to the 3000? What air pressure you shooting with? I know….lots of questions;)
Tip size is a 1.3. I am using it at 32 psi or 2.2 bar. It is slower than a 3000 RP.

I always got a really nice finish with my 3000, but I do think the 4000 gives a little nicer one. It also seems harder to run something with the 4000. With every RP it takes me a few days to get In a groove with it. Every RP I ever bought was the same way. First couple uses don’t impress much, but then it just clicks.

I would have just left the cover on the car, drilled a large hole bigger than the damage and used some expandable foam. once it is dry, cut off the excess and start loading the primer on it. 1K aerosol is preferred.

    😛

i dont see why anyone would reduce a pearl 50%. I only reduce them 20% and have not had one problem. With metallics I usually start at 35%.
giving stuff out for samples and discounts, free guns and whatever else is all advertising. advertising cost money so a company has to feel that the dollars they are spending with you on this is going to pay in the long run for them. 1 car aint going to cut it or pay their bills. most large paint companies need large shops who spend hundreds of thousands a year. thats the customers they need to get not the couple guys who decide to use their paint because they saw it on a car at a show. also all the money for that free stuff and discounts have to come from somewhere. why do you think it cost $800 for a gallon of red that cost about $5 to make. nothing is free and everyone pays for it in the end.
Very well said!

I did read it buddy. Maybe I should have worded it better. Nobody owes you a discount on paint. Is that better? Shops get discounts because they buy a large volume of paint. The jobber doesnt get paint as cheap as you would think. I have seen a cost list for another brand before and the markup is not very impressive. They only make money on volume.

Maybe you should explain to them how it would benefit them since you will be heavily promoting their product when you go to a cruise in.

Dupont has to throw guns and free paint at you to want to use their non matching basecoat.
Oh yeah, the “one and a half coat”wonder paint, that has revolutionized painting as we know it…..*** was transparent as candy half the time, and the clear was thin as water.:rofl
I used it for a year. It covered fine for me, the color matches were horrible though. I am not a fan of their clears either. 72500 is nice but is slow. Spies clear over it works a whole lot better. We ended up going back to sikkens.

Why dont you buy it through the shop and get their discount? I dont expect anything for free or discounted even on my own jobs.. We buy anywhere from 10-35k a month in product so we get our fair share of discounted items, but seeing as you might only paint 1-2 of your own cars a year you shouldnt expect the same treatment as the shop.
I said I didn’t expect free, but to me,going to a show is free advertising for them,I know the PPG guys seen it that way,I still get a better deal from them, and I don’t even buy regularly there anymore, like when I had my own shop.
The sad part is,we demo’d the new dupont( garbage),and they were literally throwing freebies at us,even offered to supply paint for BOTH my current projects completely free of charge, but I declined as we truely do prefer sikkens product(hell dupont gave both us painters free sata digital RP’s just for giving them a shot).
Desperation is a stinky cologne:rofl
haha, already come to realize I’m not gonna be using sikkens on my own cars,I just feel bad in a way when guys ask what I use for product, and why I don’t use what I use daily at work, get what I’m saying?
I think your looking at this wrong. Nobody owes you free paint. You are just the painter. The shop owner who writes the check to them each month for materials should get the free paint. Telling someone at a car show you used Sikkens paint does nothing for them. If you tell 100 people they may get 1 new customer from that. Usually the guy painting the car picks the paint. If it’s your own car and PPG will give you paint, hell use it.

In the past I have gotten free paint and also paid for it. I go into it expecting to pay and if they end up giving it to me I am very grateful. I use what materials I want based on quality and the results I want. Also remember, all paint sales are down so a lot of companies aren’t letting reps write off materials anymore. Somebody has to cover the expense.

Dupont has to throw guns and free paint at you to want to use their non matching basecoat.

    I got free shipping
Nothing is free.
