one of the biggest things with a tri coat is getting the base color right. if that base color doesnt match then it wont matter how many coats of pearl you put on. work on getting that base color.
X2! Also when you are done spraying your ground coat you can make a 50/50 mix of ground color and midcoat and spray 1-2 coats of that to aid in blending.
If you can see where your ground coat is blended before you put your pearl on, no amount of pearl in the world is gonna fix that.
July 7, 2010 at 6:17 am #22449I’ve used the 3M, Norton, Sata RPS and DeKups. I liked the Dekups the least. My favorite was the Sata RPS then the 3M.
July 5, 2010 at 7:55 pm #22355Hey Nick, it isnt as big of a thing with waterborne. There should be a hardener for your basecoat though. We have one for Autowave over here. I mainly use it for underhood applications.
Is that tintable primer in the last pic??
Tends to make your base coat look all funny but settles down weird
That’s what happens to me….
Ya our sealer/primer is just like Spies Spectro.
I use a Sata nr95 with a 1.3 tip@35psi
I put some miles on my old NR95. You ought to try an RP if you think the 95 clears good.
June 22, 2010 at 5:14 am #22019I do the same as Jim C. In fact I did my wifes and used FC720 on them. That was a year and a half ago and they look brand new still.
I usually P320, then P500, then P600 or P800 then clear. All on a D/A.
June 18, 2010 at 1:37 am #21940My vote is the Sata RP. Iwata would be second. I use Sikkens products also and find the Sata gives me a little better results than the Iwata.
Our W400 over here is different than yours. It has the wedge cut fluid nozzle where as the UK version doesn’t. Our W-400lv is the same as your W-400wb2.
If I was gonna go for an Iwata I would look at the WS400.
June 17, 2010 at 5:37 am #21921try it and see, but here something to think about since all you work on is plastic. Solvent cleaner causes static in plastic. Waterborne will get rid of it. It might not be a bad idea in your situation to use solvent first.
I never use solvent cleaner on plastic. Only on metal panels.
June 17, 2010 at 1:18 am #21913I use water first then solvent. No real time in between. Just as long as it takes me to wipe everything. I also never use solvent on plastic, fiberglass, or SMC.
June 16, 2010 at 6:31 pm #21907Something that I think helps is when I’m wiping with waterborne W&G I will keep wiping after it looks dry. Just give it 3-4 more passes. I will turn my QUADS on for 10 minutes while I mix sealer to help with evaporation.
