Tried the sata on Friday on a large van panel in silver and it was really nice finish ! Set at 2 bar and 2.5 turns out on fluid close in and fast and it sprayed the valspar really nice !
It was quite cold tho in our shop as there was another job in booth and where there was no basecoat on the top part of the panel it sagged a little but never ran ! A little wetter on that bit and it would of gone but it held up luckily ! Phew ! Lol

Thanks jason- i think the problem was the thin cheap clear we used when i was trying the sata out but now we use the hs valspar univarnish i think it would be better,i did a white tri stage pearl today and as you know its harder to see it going on a white car and as it was a tri stage i opted for the w400 so gonna give the sata a crack tomorow mate

When you guys talk about speed do you refer to how fast you move over the panel or less of an overlap as that gun lays more out ?
I ask because i have many top end guns (supernava,ws400 bellaria, gti pro base and clear guns and also a sata 3000 1.3 rp digital)
I have not used the sata much as we used a crap piss thin shitty clear at our shop and the sata just lay it on too heavy but i have managed to talk my boss into getting a better but not perfect clear to use so maybe time to break the sata out as its a hs clear we now use (octoral/valspar univarnish) any tips if anyone used or uses this clear ? Thanks

I use mipa solvent at our shop and have allways battled with siver blends or metalics with high silver content untill i started to lay a wet bed of clear binder/basecoat ! Believe me i thought this was a bit over-complicated at first but now have a dedicated old devilbiss gti at the ready with clear blend for these colours and i dont even think about the dredded blend coat ! I Actually lay a wet bed on my blend area before all 3 coats of colour not sure if its needed but it has transformed my blends and even if the colour isnt a great match the blends are almost invisable and halo is not problem either ! I just flick into the wet bed and when its dry it looks great and i am a self taught painter so did feel a bit proud of my self lol, the moral is if i can do it then a chimp could ! But thats probably affending the chimp :rofl

Yea i get the base coat as smooth as possible really,we use fast hardner in our shop unless its mega hot n then we go to medium but all the jobs are quick turnaround and as we only have a makeshift booth (no heat )so mainly fast is called for but i dont think im too far away from where i want to be just a tweak here n there lol

We get ours from a local factors called discount body panels i think its £50 a kit plus the vat mate which is good price for a nice clear
Yea i get close too about 4 inches mate,im not sure if im moving too fast and its not wet enough or too slow and its laying too much on ? When you say wide open on fluid is that about 2-2.5 turns out ?

Im sorry to hear that ben i hope you get it sorted mate must be horrible to have your home damaged like that, luckily over here in uk we dont get bad weather as such in birmingham were slap bang in centre of the country and its most likely the coast that kops it weather wise, we do get a lot of rain in a short period causing flood damage tho !

Its me being selfish i suppose regarding low post count but i love to hear of other bodyshop guys having similar issues as we do and there way around these issues ! Im on a few car forums but i look forward to reading new posts (AND VIDEOS jimmo) more on here lol

If you have to sand down far enough past the clear you put on to get rid of marks the water left then you will need to base coat it again then reclear, have you tried flatting it with 1200 grit wet and dry or 1500 as you may be able to polish it out ? If not then sand past your clear coat you put on then basecoat and clear again hth

Ok mate thankyou i will try those settings when i get the gun next week.
Is 22 psi a bit low as i read to run them at 1.8 bar to 2 bar ? Also is it just the cap that changes the gun from complient to hvlp ?
