Flow coat single stage/layer works for me when I want a nice deep glossy finish. A high solid clear works best.

I spray PPG water.Sounds like your in a very similar spraying enviroment as me, i spray in a homemade crossflow booth but i have plenty of heat, the blowers will get the job done so dont worry about it. PPG has brought out an additive you can add to the base to help it dry quicker and make it more durable to rock chipping on front spoilers, bumpers and hoods, it great stuff PN 935-1250 in aquabase plus. I think after you give it an honest chance you will love it, color matches are great drys quickly, blends out nice. I originally thought my rep was full of crap too when he first walked in the door with this system but after a while i was sold and absolutly love it. Only thing i would suggest is the go with the Nexa Aquabase system instead of enviro, you get better bang for your buck.

Envirobase all the way, no question about it, I spray it every day and love it, color matches are great, coverage is good on 95% of the colors, blends out awesome, been using it over 3 years now. Dupont or Axalta or whatever its called now is a different animal, Dupont rep was by my shop and demoed it, wasent impressed at all, been hearing nothing but horror stories. Last time I checked they want you to buy an $8000 camera to read correct color formulas. Just my opinion.

I have an Accuspray, been using it now for 5 months, the gun feels cheap to hold in your hand being its plastic, if i had my time back i would have looked into other options.

Solvent pop is too much too soon, pounding on solvent rich material will trap solvents and cause them to pop.

I have looked into the primers you are talking about, Rep said he was going to get me some to try, he also told me they weren’t as fast a the solvent primers in PPG’s water line, which is 12 minutes with a heat lamp. I know you have to put the blowers on it to dry and Yes as weird as it seems it is a DTM waterborne primer.

Are you using the correct SGO sealers under your base to help with hiding?

I personally like a 1.2 in a devilbiss tekna, works awesome for me, I use the Low VOC version of 6659 (6759) its a good clear with a higher Volume solid content, 6800 is the speed clear in the line up, great for 1-2 panels. I dont bother the one visit thing i like to give the clear a 10 min flash but im spraying in a crappy booth. Im thinking your applying it to wet, 2 light coats and a drop and for 90% of colors and you are good to go.
