I used a Sata NR 2000 for a lot of years and I would say that it is a good universal gun. It sprays sealer good, metalics GREAT, clear good. My Iwata is not a good universal gun with only one cap but a GREAT specialized gun with the correct cap. With the chrome cap sprays sealer good, metalics not so good, clear GREAT. Purple cap goes sealers not good, metalics GREAT, clear not so good.

Nope no worries with the 800. I can even clear over 600 DA.

I just sprayed that Gm 316n gold the other day. In sherwin it took me 4 coats. I think that most of these new colors are getting worse about coverage. I do think that the sealer will soak up the base if you dont give it enough flash,

I use 800 DA on the blend areas and grey scuff all the edges. It will knock all the factory orange peel out of it.

Oh my boss is not the owner. I work for a dealership and he is the director of fixed operations. He just oversees the numbers part of the bussiness. I totaly agree with trying to save money. He just needs to realize that we need to spend some money on getting rid of the waste. Thats just part of running a body shop.

[quote]Before I bought the orange cap, I did some research on purple vs orange cap, and from what I understood, purple cap was slow, “dusted” the paint and it was better off for candy (??).
Hub @ AsetUSA recommended me the orange cap.
I sprayed BMW silver with it (first time spraying silver) and it turned out great, except a few mottling around the curves which I think was my fault for spraying too close.

The orange cap does have a little faster fluid delivery, but the purple cap isnt that much slower. I use it for every thing, solid colors, metalics and pearls.

I use the 3m perfect it 06085 with a wool pad and it seems to cut preaty well if you hit the clear in its sweet spot. Although, I do think that it has alot of fillers in it because it looks really good until it gets washed and has had some time ro evaporate off. Then you start to see some hazing coming back.

Ditto on the LPH400. I use the purple cap for base. It suits my style better than the orange. I will tell you though, its easy to get some mottling with that orange cap when spraying sherwin base coat. I have never used the orange cap with any other paint line so it may be a real winner with others.

Ok so now I know that Im not alone on this one. Recycling sucks! My boss is just trying to save money but we only use between 30 and 50 bucks a month on new thinner. He is also worried about the hazardous waste sitting around the shop. So, my next question is, how do you dispose of the used thinner? We currantly have about 40 gallons of waste thinner sitting around that he wants me to recycle and use for cleaning my guns because he doesnt want to pay someone to dispose of it for us.

No we already have the machine. Its really old and I know nothing about it. I have just been dumping our used virgin thinner in it and cooking it off. It seems to work but the thinner just smells bad and doesnt cut as well as the new stuff.
