JimC does alot of custom work on bikes he would know what products work best. But in most of my cases I use Evercoat products for glaze and body filler.
I also use PPG paint cus it what I have, and black paint is cheap good thing for you, also I remember reading about SEM hotrod black I believe if I can recall that it is a Flat black and fairly cost effective (Cheap)
You may just want to search the site I know its here somewhere.
Also if you want I can do a breakdown of paint costs so you know what to expect when you go buy paint (well in PPG products)
I would start with 80grit on a DA to knock down the stuff around the scratches and knicks then I would switch to 180 and go over the entire panel depending on how flexible the bodywork is I would just use a glaze to smooth it out and prime the entire panel sand it smooth with 240-320 then base / Clear. If you can just do one piece to get started then you can learn on one, Besides screwing them all up at once.
What color are you going to paint it? what products will you be using? Thanks alot fellas ,
No use in me making another wheel, Since you have all been there and done that. I did end up finding the post about the EC700 from a while ago. when Rayn said he didnt like Envirobase…. hahaI did just try out some Shopline Clear the JC661 Not bad I did put it on pretty thick looked great when I stopped sprayin but I came back 10 min later had a couple sags. sanded and buffed out great the next day.
Was about $150 for the clear and hardener it was a 4:1
:welc There are a bunch of great folks on here with years of Experience.
And I hear That Grizzly Guns Are the Best :exci
look around where you live to see what brands of paint are close by .
As for a gun Im a SATA fan but I have no preference. Devilbiss makes good stuff, Iwata also. Check ebay for a good used gun I have had good luck so far.Well I think I will stick to the traditional clears as you all have mentioned. I will be getting 1 gallon of the EC clear to demo and see how it is but I will most likly stick with the DC3000,DC4000,DCU2021
I have a crossflow setup and no bake so it has to be out of dust fairly quickly not to concerned with dry times as much. I have never used DCU2002 Is this something I should give a whirl?thanks for the reply , I don’t know of anyone who has used it. besides that I have only see a few videos on youtube and some blog that says use a 3000RP with a 1.2 tip at 35PSI
I am getting Setup for Envirobase but I would Like to use the clear on DBC if I could but if not no big deal.
I would get a piece of a fender or door skin from a discarded piece and cut it to the shape of the opening Slightly bigger and slightly bend the edges of the piece so it fits flush with the door , then tack weld around it. You can cool it with a wet rag after every tack or just take your time , this will leave an almost flush finished piece and glaze your way out from there.
I think its just a base paint job the rest is usually done with a decal applied while in water I have seen it done before I only say that because the vice grips have a perfect pattern on them and who would mask the paper and vice grips.
otherwise seems like a clean job. Nice pics and thanks for sharing :clappy
:agree The Vibrance line has everything you need to make your Foose paint and they just came out with a waterborne Midcoat clear last month so it opens up a whole new chapter for custom colors in Envirobase
toners for Enviro run between 39.00 for some HL and up to 193.00 for 2L bottles special effect HL toners run 223.00.
I dont know what the BASF toners run , as as stated before the Envio just need a shake before you pour it no mixing bank
so far Enviro seems to be the way to go unless you got time and money to throw away and just want the Foose name next to your mixing bench
also Chips Painter on Overhaulin, Charley Hutton (Has His Own gig now Charley Hutton Color Studio) is a big Envirobase Guy. Check out his work he only uses PPG
so in the end +1 PPG
:agree Paint color Is a marketing trick if you like the color you will buy it.
thats why they do it to make more money, think of it as an investment if you paint the turd to look nice and sell it for $2000.00 more than a basecoat job and only have 250.00 invested = more profit
