Great gun, but kinda slow for me spraying over large panels.
That 16 PSI is recommend for HVLP setup.Setting the pressure to 25-30 PSI produces LOTS of overspray with this gun and if you reduce the clear, its even
worse!Honestly, I think my Sata RP produces less overspray than the iwata, I have not sprayed much with it though.
The orange cap is a must for metallic and general basecoats IMO, its even used to spray clears by some.
I got a few foam brushes from canadian tire today. Hopefully the urethane solvents wont melt the foam :lol1
RatStang,
the bumper is brand new that came primered, I just rmeoved the primer and sprayed adhesion promoter
and sealer over it.
If I spot in the adhesion promoter, is it o.k if adhesion promoter is sprayed over primer? and is the area gonna be visible or “map” once you spray basecoat? Thanks for reply Jimmo.
The pinholes sanded nice and flat, so there is no need for polyester putty. They were probably in 2nd or 3rd coat. And about 1/2 inches tops.
Do I need to use adhesion promoter again? I’m thinking yes.
I’m going to home depot later, get a small roller and roll in some 2K highbuild primer over those areas, then sand it nice and flat.:wak
Mottling around 3 lines, each about 3-4 inches. The rest sprayed great.
I think I was too close to panel, not sure. Doesn’t matter I sanded those lines and sprayed again, no more! :cheer:
I was just curious what caused this, and why did mottling occur around those lines.Anyonw knows what those lines are called?
In the first coat, there were this 3-4 inch lines, maybe 3 of them with metallic irregularly placed around them. Kinda like “halo” effect, hard to describe:blush:
But after I sanded them and sprayed 2-3 coats all over the bumper, it sprayed great. So what caused those lines? What are they called?

I agree 100%. I noticed the orange cap sprayed a bit “coarser” than the silver cap, it does a great job though, whole panel or blending.Used the orange cap to spray a bumper today. (well, half of it  ).
At first past, the silver sprayed great, except some areas that was like 3-4 inch lines with uneven mettalic  (what is this called?)
but the rest looked great. So I waited for 15 mins, sanded those lines and turned in the fluid nozzle a bit, and sprayed again.
Wow! The silver seemed to spray nice, no mottling or tiger stripes. You can also spray a bit faster with it.
This is the first time I spray silver! (BMW 309 arctic silver).
Last time I sprayed a mettalic was a GM blue, I used the silver cap and I could see the tiger stripes, So I had to spray in different positions/directions to get rid of them.Recommended!
I’ll post pics later.
PS: R-M Diamont is a great base. Covers in 2-3 coats and costs the same as Dupont chromabase (at least here). Wish I used this base earlier.
Great guns, well built, but parts are kinda pricey.
So you are deciding between HVLP and RP?
HVLP is mostly used for basecoats, but it will shoot clear just fine.
RP is a compliant gun, mostly used for clearcoats, it sprays faster and atomizes better. But it can also shoots base.I would go with 1.3 on both.
