Well I said I would post pictures of those parts that I did last week.
It was a Butt match because the owner wasn’t able to give up his car to do a blend.
And the parts came in Windvail Blue. So it was a full color change. :S

And I know. These damn Pearl Silvers are one of the most unforgiving colors for butt matches.
It came out pretty close. But because it’s a black base with tons of silver metallic. It’s sort of one of those colors that in a certain amount of light is way off, But than in some light looks dead on. It’s odd really.

Anyways.

Here’s that Contaminated disaster POS rear bumper.

Here’s behind the License plate,

This is practically how the whole thing looked after I got the epoxy to seal it all down. Just a cratered mess. :S

But a tad bit of smoothening, and a lot of Clear on the rest and I managed to get it all to lay down.

I didn’t spend too much time behind the license plate in fear of runs in the worse part to buff out.
And the license plate hid all the dingers anyways.

Thought you guys could out hack me huh? Think again. 👿

Side Louvers:

Here’s the end result:

This is probably the butt match in about the worse light.
But so far nobody have noticed it.

I think all these Utards need their fucking eyes checked. :exci

But like I said, in certain light it’s dead on. So the color really messes with your head.

It was also amazing how far these bumpers were off from the factory…

Side tone is a bit off on those 😉 They can look perfect dead on, but if you dont have the right side tone that is what happens..

Yep, unfortunately my jobber wont mix out of a PPG Variant.
So I don’t really have a way to adjust for fading and all that stuff.

I told him we can always blend it to the fenders and quarters.

looks factory to me 😉

you can adjust the side tone with more of the mica or flatting base somtimes a touch of white the side tone is the most important part in a color like that;) 😉 😉

should have went with basf 😉
and there should be much for a color fade on that one

The reason no one has noticed is because they don’t care.

I probably should have went with BASF.

There was four variant colors for this Satin Silver TL in PPG’s Deltron Series.
We tried to pick the closest variant to it, but obviously we should have checked in multiple lightings.
It really is dead on in some light, and way off in others.

I probably should have tried BASF.
Compared to DBC. BASF probably would’ve been a tad cheaper.
I think the next time I feel the need to use the upper line stuff, I’ll switch over to BASF and give it a try.

And even if I had the toners, and Mica’s I still only saw the car once for a couple minutes, in the rain. before I had to shoot the parts.
We did a sprayout. But the sprayout matched in some places, and was off in others.
So the owner said just go ahead and do it.

People don’t care or notice I guess.
It went on a cruise with a local group of probably around 40 guys.
And amazingly nobody realized that his V6 Magically turned into a V8.
Which is odd, because every other time they gave him shit about his “wannabe”

To be honest, these are all boxbody guys anyways. and they probably don’t know enough about S197’s to even tell the difference…

I know it’s the undertone throwing it off.
But I think the reason why people don’t really notice is because you walk by it and it’s off, than like magic it’s a perfect match. And it’s like wtf… :S

April 23, 2009 at 11:44 pm #14057

Its not the under coats.. Its a side tone issue… You needed a lighter variant.

April 23, 2009 at 11:45 pm #14058

Silver is a pita sometimes.. But you learned a good lesson on this one.. Always have the car there and check the color from the side angle not dead on.. I have made that mistake a few times in the past

side tone rules the day on silvers …even when ya got lots of room ta blend a bad side tone mismatch can be the diff between easy ta next to impossible ta blend applys ta golds an light met blue to;) 😉 😉

It’s a bad idea to blend a dark side. You will chase your blend forever!

I just painted an Escape today that was TL.
