    Well, I have a guy on my street who wanted his roof fixed. I decided to not cut it off and replace it because I wanted to use some metal shrinking techniques and the such, and he wasn’t paying like that. So, here we go, not too ar into yet;

    First day, stripping paint off

    Chemical stipper (yes Bondo, I did see video with the monster DA ripper, I’m poor though, haha).

    Stipped

    Getting oil canning out with torch at this point. I never thought about making an X across the hood with a mig to do it like I read in another post, so I have just been chasing the “oil canning” around the roof. Pretty much got it all out now. Got a couple dent to fix and get the panel level as possible, then epoxy primer and filler time. All criticisms, suggestion or rants are more than welcome.

    Thanks guys.

    Looks like its got some pretty good damage in that first photo. then he talks about fixing the dents and fixing the oil canning
    so that would be my guess as to why he stripped it :whistle:

    wow!!! looks good now knock it out with no more an 2 smears 😉 dont worry about the canning till ya got it all done then tighten it back up around your edges with a block of wood an a 3# sledge so ur metal dont have ta think so hard nice job :dnc :dnc :dnc :dnc

    Good effort for your first try :cheers Next time start on the outside perimeter of the roof and work towards the center,keep your shrinks no bigger than a quarter,even a dime size will work.Use a neutral flame on your torch with a 00 tip,and most times all you need is to heat it till the metal truns blue and quench it,oil can be gone.For roofs the unispotter shrink attachment works well,very rarely should a person ever shrink a roof,hood or trunk.So good for you for trying. 😉

    Smooth, a tree fell on the roof of the car when we had some bad weather. I stripped all the paint for a few reasons: 1. there were multiple dents in the roof, 2. the damage streched the metal like crazy all over the center of the roof, so it was oll canning like crazy, 3. I was taught as a young lad to work the metal until it’s as perfect as it can be, then use a little bondo (can’t work the metal if I am not at the metal).

    A shorter and probably better version would be, what Ding said, haha.

    Thank Bondo, I’ll take that as a compliment from one of the old heads. Appreciate it. Now you will also get to watch me mix Bondo with Evercoat Rage Gold since I am poor, haha. I have some stud pulling and old school hammer and dollying to do, then well get to the filler. Since I’m here, I got a question, do you, or anyone else for that matter, ever put body filler over Epoxy primer?

    I was always told filler only goes on metal and the only thing that goes on top of primer is glaze maybe someone can tell me different but thats what I was taught.

    Yeah Jason, I started off with the small heat rings, but man that roof was stretched like crazy. I would have prefered to just cut the whole roof off and weld another one back on. Of course, then I would have to take the glass out and I know Doc, it would get broken, haha.

    It’s all tight now though, so it worked out by some strange happen chance.

    That’s what I was taught as well Wydir, just checking…I will probably just do what I know and not try anything knew at this point…I have some metal I can try it on thought, just to see how it works out. Thanks for the reply.

    Thanks guys for all the comments. I’m waiting on the stud welder to arrive so I can get all the dents out as much as possible, then we’ll try to close this one out. I will try and post more pics as I go along with the hopes that they will be of some assistance to another person.

    Doc
