I had the wife pick me this up at christmas and it was a really good book. She paid around $100 for it and I see they now offer most of it free on google books. Here’s the link if you want to check it out: http://books.google.com/books?id=b-jYDn0W4jgC&printsec=frontcover&dq=paint+chemistry&ei=Mg68SaXtDI6yMJqN-aUL#PPA6,M1
the first half is just basic chemistry, the second half is where it has some pretty interesting information relating to paint.

AnonymousMarch 16, 2009 at 3:44 am #13379I’d send you mine but I still don’t fully understand it! I’m re-reading it again now, struggling a bit with the chemistry….and to understand the second half fully you need to really understand the first half. It has some pretty interesting info on urethanes, polyuretheanes, epoxy, thermosets, thermoplastics….and then some. I found the parts dealing with adhesion and the different types of bonds & crosslinks pretty interesting. It also gets into the color/pigments. It covers all kinds of paint, but most of it was dealing with sprayable automotive/industrial stuff. I got a lot out of it.
