I just found this really odd, we just finished doing a complete hail repair job for a painter at a competitors shop down the road. He said he didn’t want them to use the low-end materials on his car that their forced to use on all the others. He’s a flat-rate painter that’s been their at least 10 years. I know if I found one of my employees taking their car to a competitor I would be a bit unimpressed to say the least, this was a $5400 job!
Weird huh??? :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
August 21, 2008 at 4:52 am #11315that is bad….was gonna try ta come up with some smart ass remark but its dings turn 😉 makes ya wonder bout the paint their using but also alota other things to just remember that paints only as good as the work underneith regaurdless of the price as it will make or break a job btw what kinda paint does the shop use???
August 21, 2008 at 7:22 am #11316Whats they guy worried about. hell bondo gets his paint from NAPA:ohmy: . Maybe he can’t match the horrible factory peel like you can Jimmo:P . It is kinda weird though. Maybe he knows he isnt that good of a painter. He must not trust his body men either. Would think he would have taken his insurance check and repaired it himself and used whatever paint he wanted. Sure the shop would have let him use the place. Likely his boss knows though. It is a good thing though when other people in the business trust you enough to repair their car. When i first opened shop had a really good body shop cust of ours have me paint a pickup box for them that they bought from us. they were really busy at the time and it helped them out. makes you nervous though when you have a shop full of guys inspecting your work.

AnonymousAugust 21, 2008 at 3:28 pm #11319At his shop theirs a few painters & each one preps their own jobs. Theirs a head painter that oversee’s everything and is a bit of a knob. Apparently they order their paint from ppg or s&w, heres the funny part… they have an RM system their which they only use to tint their ppg & s&w!! As for primer & clear they use a local company called champion, I think the guy brews it in his bathtub……he drives around in a beat up old white van selling it out of that.
Its a GM dealership btw, somehow I doubt this meets GM warranty specifications. I still don’t know why he didn’t make a deal with the shop about fixing it all himself and getting descent materials for it… I guess i don’t fully know what the situation is over their.
(I didn’t paint this one ding, so it had a very smooth finish!)

“I guess you do all your own work , huh?”
Being the smart a#$ I am, I said“Oh no, I take my car to Mapco so it can be done right”
