Just wondering if anybody else has been seeing an increase of customers asking you to paint and install their parts. I’ve had two today, and generally reject them.
I understand that people are looking to save where they can, but I’m sure they don’t bring groceries with them when they go out for dinner.
March 19, 2009 at 11:29 pm #13484just factor a parts markup when you quote it out. no one needs to know 😉
March 19, 2009 at 11:41 pm #13485thats when i sharpin my pencil on the labor an paint an just charge just that little extra;)
AnonymousMarch 20, 2009 at 7:36 am #13503I don’t get that many providing their own stuff….but ya, bump it up a tad. I still try and stay competive given that a scuff and paint job really doesn’t take that much effort. On a bumper it would still be profitable, small stuff like mirrors and what not you’d have to double mitchells times if you wanted make a dollar. The majority of guys trying to provide their own parts I find seem to be clueless, like they think their doing you a favor because they know a parts guy. I think half the population is unaware of a parts markup in a bodyshop.
March 20, 2009 at 5:32 pm #13508Some of what I’m running into is that they come in for an regular estimate, and then they shop for parts after and call back asking me to work off the original est. Makes it harder to adjust the labor then.
March 21, 2009 at 1:10 am #13514Well your original estimate included the parts so you’ll gladly work off that. then they’ll have some spare parts 👿
Guess it also depends on where you’re located. My shop is located in a not-so-great area.
I get bombarded with cheap idiots all day long sometimes. Trust me, this would get to you.
Now, i just point to Maaco across the street. Done! But, sometimes, there are the guys that do mean well. Rare…
